The Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA) recommends that pepper exporting enterprises should consider when selling on long-term contracts because it is likely that the price in the world market will increase in the near future. .
Exchange with Saigon Times Online On August 1, VPA Chief of Office Tran Duc Tung said that in recent years, some pepper exporting enterprises have signed long-term contracts but by the time of delivery, the domestic price of pepper has increased, so there was no pepper to deliver to customers but also occupy customers' deposits, leading to disputes, lawsuits, discredit to pepper exporting enterprises of Vietnam.
“To ensure the safety of enterprises exporting pepper, they should sell goods in the form of spot delivery and be careful in long-distance contracts because the price of pepper will likely increase,” Mr. Tung advised.
The reason is that in February 2012, the domestic black pepper price was VND 110,000 / kg, down about VND 8,000 / kg from the previous month, so some businesses forecast that the price will continue in the near future. reduction should have signed a number of long-distance contracts.
But, since the end of April, the domestic pepper price has started to rise again, reaching VND 120,000 / kg and is currently at VND 124,000 / kg, so the export of pepper has not been signed before.
According to VPA, due to import demand and pepper prices in major consumer markets around the world, such as Europe and the US from the beginning of the year, this year has been relatively stable, leading to an increase in domestic pepper prices.
VPA forecasts that Vietnam's total pepper supply in 2012 (2012 output + inventory + temporary import for re-export) will be around 115,000 – 120,000 tons. Domestic consumption is about 5,000 tons, so export volume in 2012 is estimated at 110,000-115,000 tons (including temporary import for re-export).
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, estimated export pepper in the first 7 months reached 80,000 tons, with a turnover of US $ 546 million, down 3.2% in volume but up 20.3% in value over the same period last year. The average export price of pepper reached 6,814 USD / ton. The main import markets of Vietnam pepper are the US with 13.5% market share, Germany is 11.8%, the United Arab Emirates is 9%.
