Vietnam’s market share of pepper in total imports of Japan increased sharply from 19.3% in the first 2 months of 2020, to 28.12% in the first 2 months of 2021.

According to the statistics from the International Trade Center, the import of Japanese pepper in the first 2 months of 2021 reached 1.5 thousand tons, worth over 7 million USD, down 1% in terms of value, according to the Department of Import and Export. volume, but increasing 6.6% in value over the same period in 2020.

The average import price of Japanese pepper in the first 2 months of 2021 reached US $ 4,754 / ton, up 7.7% over the same period in 2020. In which, the average import price of Japanese pepper increased from almost major supply markets, but plummeted from India.

In the first 2 months of 2021, Japan reduced the import of pepper from Malaysia and Indonesia, but increased strongly imports from Vietnam, India and Sri Lanka.

This is considered a good signal for Vietnam’s pepper exports in the context that exports to European and US markets are facing difficulties when the epidemic is still complicated.

Statistics show that, Japanese pepper imports from Vietnam in the first 2 months of 2021 reached 414 tons, worth approximately $ 2 million, up 44.3% in volume and 51.2% in value. prices over the same period in 2020.
