The increase in live hog price in the market also makes the price of breeding pigs increase sharply. Along with that, the encouragement of promoting the increase of herds and re-herds also contributes to the demand for breeding animals.

Increasing seed supply

According to Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, May, June and July 2019 were the pig raising months most severely affected by the African swine cholera disease, even a month had to destroy over 1.2 million pigs.

Therefore, at that time, basically, businesses, farms and livestock households did not perform breeding. Due to the cyclical factor, the growing time of the pig, the price of porker is now high.

From August 2019, a number of businesses and farms have just started breeding, so it is expected that the supply of pork will basically meet the demand in the third and fourth quarters of 2020.

Deputy Phung Duc Tien emphasize, to reproduce quickly, the most important is to have enough quantity and quality of breeds. However, in addition to providing breeds, biosecurity is still a key solution to ensure effectiveness because African swine cholera is still at risk of recurrence when vaccines and drugs are not yet available.

To increase the seed supply, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said there are 3 solutions.

Firstly, the provinces and cities have had many policies to support farmers to re-breed, especially support in the investment of broodstock breeds.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development highly appreciated the provinces and cities that had mechanisms and policies to support sows and boars.

Typically, Hanoi has supported farmers 5 million VND / sow, 3 million VND / male parents to accelerate herd growth, re-herd with the goal of restoring 1.8 million head of pigs as before. score before the end of 2020.

Nghe An also has a policy to support 2 million dong / sow, and many provinces such as Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho … have policies to support the recovery of pig breeding. .

Many provinces learn from the experience of the places where they have done so that they can provide support policies appropriate for their locality.

The second is that with over 115,000 cavalry pigs, grandparents who are localized on the spot will have an increased selection rate. Along with the plan to import pig semen to refresh the blood of the cavalry herds, grandparents, businesses also promote the import of the herd of grandparents.

Since the beginning of the year, businesses have imported more than 5,000, and plan to import about 10,000 more this year.

This import plan replaces the imported pigs in 2016, 2017. Because regular pigs, every 4 years to replace 1 batch. As such, it is expected that breeding pigs will not only be sufficient for the end of this year, but also for the period until 2025.

Thirdly, in order to quickly get the breeding pig herds, reduce market pressure, businesses have imported broodstock. Typically, Viet Duc International Nutrition Co., Ltd has imported over 200 parents pigs, by the end of August 2020, the company will import 2,000 pigs. By the end of this year, the pig herd will supply the breeders to the market.

“With the above solutions together with the production of over 2.9 million sows will provide enough breeds for the coming time,” Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said.

The Deputy Minister also said that pig breeding developed like pyramids with the top of cavalry pigs, then grandparents, parents and trade, each step will increase gradually. With biological characteristics and such a tower model, the import from parents upwards, the livestock industry will be more beneficial.

Besides, the regulations do not allow the entry of trade items. This is the technical barrier to protect domestic production, for the scientific research team to actively research and develop seed production. Foreign varieties may not be more than domestic varieties in terms of productivity but more in terms of disease eradication, immunity, etc.

Enterprises join hands

Recently, the mission of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, led by Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, inspected the re-herd production and breeding seed at the sow farm in Luong Tai commune (Van Lam district, Hung Yen) of the Company. Vietnam Stock Joint Stock.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister highly appreciated the prevention and control of epidemics, increasing the herd and re-herd to ensure the biosecurity of the farm in particular and the company in general.

Towards the goal of solving the breeding problem for livestock farmers, Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of CP Vietnam Joint Stock Company, said the company is doing many ways to increase the supply of breeding pigs for people. .

If in the past, when choosing a sow, the company would choose no more than 70%, then the selection rate will increase to 80%. In which, 70% selected by the previous standard, the company increased to take out to provide for livestock households.

In return, the company put the entire 15% to choose to raise more internally, because of the breeding technology and the ability to replace the sows of the company is higher than the farmers.

Up to now, the total number of sows including cavalry, grandparents, and parents of the company is about 310,000 (including 1,200 cavalry pigs, more than 50,000 grandparents and 260,000 parents).

Due to the scarcity of breeding stock in the North, CP Vietnam is promoting the transfer of gilts and breeding pigs from the company's farms in the Central region to farms in the North, in order to increase the supply of breeding animals for small livestock farmers.

In addition, C.P Vietnam is slow to enter gilts on its farms to provide additional gilts to producers.

Along with increasing the supply of gilts and breeding pigs to small farmers, the company also actively sends technical staff to advise and guide the biosafety method when re-farming for farms, farming households. Technical staff of the company directly to the farm, farmers need to prepare for breeding pigs for advice.

After the farm, the farmers have entered the breeding pigs, technical staff often exchange through means of communication or direct consultation to help reduce risks and re-succeed.

He Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of C.P Vietnam Joint Stock Company, added that the company divides the farms into 3 groups to advise on the best and safest way to re-arrange.

For example, for the group of farms that had not previously been sick, but due to the disease situation and lack of capital, so it was forced to reduce the herd, how to guide isolation, how to consolidate the barns to improve safety biological.

For farms that have been epidemic and have to destroy all, so far, it has been 3-4 months to clean the cages, to check whether the pathogens are still on the farm, the cages are repaired to ensure biosecurity . After checking, seeing that the biosecurity is ensured, the farm can be consulted on 50% of pigs.

In addition, for farms that have been epidemic but not destroyed, in addition to ensuring biosecurity, it is necessary to take measures to explore and enter the gilts most suitable.
