With the quality of oranges with thin skin, succulent, sweet aroma, yellow cloves, many varieties of oranges have almost no seeds suitable for market demand. Cao Phong district currently has 1,744.4 hectares of citrus trees, the output of the crop year 2022 – 2023 is about 22,000 tons. Particularly, the area of ​​oranges is about 1,500 hectares, the output is 18,000 tons; in which, the area of ​​oranges produced according to VietGAP standards is about 536.77 ha.

With the potential for orange development for many years, the Cao Phong district government has implemented many oriented solutions to support people in developing orange trees and key varieties. The district is implementing solutions to preserve and develop the Cao Phong orange brand, and orient the restructuring of the agricultural sector in association with new rural construction.

Orange trees have brought high economic efficiency to Cao Phong district, being the first agricultural product of Hoa Binh province to be granted a geographical indication protection title in 2014; In 2016, the International Intellectual Property Institute granted the certificate “Top 10 famous brands and trademarks for the 5th time”. Cam Cao Phong is present in supermarkets such as: Big C, Vinmart, Metro, BRG… approaching the big market. Cao Phong orange was selected as a dessert serving passengers of Vietnam Airlines… From 2013 to the years 2017 – 2019, there were seasons, Cao Phong’s orange output reached over 30,000 tons, the income value was from 500 – 700 million VND/ha. Many households become rich after each orange crop.

Mr. Pham Van Bach, an orange farmer household, Cao Phong town, Cao Phong district said that growing oranges is the main source of income in the family. Bach’s family grows two main types of oranges: CS1 yellow heart oranges and soup oranges. In recent years, Bach’s family has focused on quality, not on quantity. Grow oranges organically to ensure food safety for consumers using the product.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan, owner of Thanh Loan agricultural shop, Cao Phong town, Cao Phong district, said that since the geographical indication of Cao Phong oranges, people here grow oranges according to VietGap standards, the quality is increasing. more delicious, very popular with consumers. In the past few years, many kinds of oranges from other growing places have been mixed into Cao Phong oranges, but none of them have the same distinctive flavor as the oranges here.

Pham Thanh Thao, a tourist from Hanoi, said that for many years now, every time the Cao Phong orange season comes, the whole family takes a car trip to the planting site to buy oranges for family and friends to use gradually. The sweetness of Cao Phong oranges has a distinctive taste that is different from oranges grown in other places.

* Guaranteed Cao Phong orange quality

It is increasingly difficult to keep the Cao Phong orange brand because of subjective and objective factors. Currently, some orange areas have passed the business period, in the period of cyclical decline, along with many orange areas affected by pests and diseases, so orange cultivation for many households is no longer effective, leading to destruction of orange trees to plant other crops. In addition, the Cao Phong orange brand was mixed with oranges from other regions, resulting in significant brand damage.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan, owner of Thanh Loan agricultural store, Cao Phong town, Cao Phong district, said that Cao Phong orange brand is facing the fear of being mixed and counterfeited, especially orange products from other places. . To identify the standard Cao Phong oranges, the best buyers come to buy at the production and business establishments or call directly, we will ship the products to consumers.

In order to maintain the brand, the authorities and people of Cao Phong district have implemented an infrastructure project to develop the production of concentrated safe orange zones; supporting localities in food safety / GAP certification, product traceability stamps for citrus areas in the business cycle. The district has selected the core area to implement the replanting project, from which to draw experience to ensure efficiency.

In addition, coordinate with the Plant Protection Institute and relevant agencies to develop technical solutions to improve soil, create a pest-free land fund for citrus replanting; reorganizing citrus fruit production in a sustainable way, ensuring requirements on food safety and product traceability; improve infrastructure for production; take enterprises and cooperatives as the core, as the center connecting producers with product consumption markets.

Regarding propaganda and promotion of Cao Phong orange products, the agricultural sector of Hoa Binh province in general and Cao Phong district in particular has implemented very methodically for many years.

Mr. Quach Van Ngoan, Chairman of Cao Phong District People’s Committee, said that currently, in Cao Phong district, production mainly follows VietGap standards. By the end of November 2022, Cao Phong district will organize the 7th Cao Phong Orange Festival, to promote and promote the consumption of products connecting Cao Phong orange agricultural products to the domestic market.

In order to preserve and develop the orange brand, Cao Phong district has so far organized the management and production of quality seed, arranged the seed structure in the direction of spreading the crop, implementing a closed production cycle in the direction of production. clean and safe according to VietGAP standards, towards a stable and sustainable product consumption chain at supermarkets, hotels, restaurants and export./.
