In the first 4 months of the year, longan exports increased the highest in the fruit group, reaching 3 million USD, 13.4 times higher than the same period last year.

Data from the General Department of Customs shows that fruit and vegetable exports in the first 4 months of the year had significant growth, with the fruit group being the brightest spot. Among them, the label is occupying a prominent position with outstanding growth, reaching the highest level in this group.

In 4 months, the export value of longan to other countries reached 3 million USD, an increase of more than 13.4 times over the same period last year. The US, China and Japan are the three main markets increasing purchases of Vietnamese longans.

Businesses say that the ever-improving quality of labels is the main reason why this product attracts customers in many countries. This year, due to the effects of climate change, the output and quality of longans from countries such as Thailand, India and China have decreased. This has created favorable conditions for Vietnamese labels to compete more strongly in the international market.

Thanks to this increase, the export price of longan is maintained at a stable level of 12,000-18,000 VND per kilogram in the garden, farmers can earn a profit of 5 to 10 million VND per acre. At traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City, the retail price of longan ranges from 40,000 VND to 60,000 VND per kg, an increase of about 10-20% over the same period last year.

The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association said longan currently ranks in the top 5 fruit trees with the largest acreage in the country, with more than 80,000 hectares and an average output of 600,000 tons per year. In the last two years, Vietnamese fresh longans have competed more strongly with Thai products in the Chinese market, thanks to improving quality and meeting export market standards.

In 2023, Vietnam’s longan exports will reach more than 14 million USD, an increase of nearly 2.5 times compared to 2022. With the current strong growth momentum, longan exports are expected to reach 16-20 million USD this year. From July to September, Vietnamese longan will enter the main season and output is expected to increase.
