Krong Nang and Dak Lak districts have 740 ha of pepper, of which over 400 are for business. In recent years, the price of pepper in the market is quite high and stable, many farmers in the district have been enriched thanks to this tree. However, pepper is a fastidious crop that requires high soil as well as planting and tending techniques, so the development of sustainable pepper planting models is being paid attention by the authorities at all levels and the people here.
Doan Van Thong's pepper garden (in Ea Tan commune) has been applied with care techniques in a sustainable way for more than 4 years. Compared to traditional pepper gardens, his family's garden has many differences such as: less pest and disease, thicker and greener pepper leaves, especially the epidemic of fast and slow death.
Mr. Thong said, the process of caring for pepper gardens with more than 1,800 posts by biological methods that he is applying is quite simple: use only green manure, composting animal manure, micro-organic fertilizer to fertilize the plants. when newly planted; When spending on fruits, add a little inorganic fertilizer to support the tree. Thus, each year with 900 business posts, his family harvests an average of 6 – 7 tons, earning over 300 million VND.
Similarly, with 300 posts being harvested, Mr. Vu Dinh Tin's family (in Ea Tan commune) earns a stable interest of over VND 100 million annually. According to Mr. Tin, achieving such results is because in recent years, under the direct guidance of extension workers, he has developed pepper in a sustainable way. Currently, his family's pepper garden is growing well and increasing productivity.
According to Mr. Tin's experience, pepper often develops pests and diseases mainly in the rainy season, so it is important to dig ditches for drainage. In addition, he often prune branches close to the ground to limit the spread of soil-borne pathogens to the trunk.
In previous years, most of the pepper area in the district were not cared for properly according to science and technology, moreover people were racing to plant rampant so the disease happened so much that pepper died massively, many families falling into debt. Therefore, people now pay great attention to take care of their family gardens towards sustainable development.
According to the assessment of District Agriculture, the reality from tending pepper towards sustainable development will help improve the soil environment, help the ecosystem in the land to grow richer; Besides, the proper and proper use of fertilizers, in which priority is given to the use of organic, biological and bio-fertilizer fertilizers, will limit the occurrence of harmful epidemics, thus pepper plants are less prone to pests and diseases, and the service life of trees is longer …
