The Meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh, representatives of Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of key provinces growing pepper, members of Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA); international organizations in the pepper and spice industry, and nearly 400 domestic and international delegates from 25 IPC member countries.

According to VPA, Vietnam has joined the International Pepper Association since 2005, this is the annual Pepper Conference held in IPC member countries. In 2019, Vietnam is the host country of the 47th International Pepper Conference.
Through this event will help businesses, importers, farmers and international organizations share information as well as promote relationships for the development of pepper industry in the world.

In particular, the 47th IPC Conference took place in the context of pepper production and trading in the world being affected by many unfavorable factors on continuously falling pepper prices, climate change and climate change. Often, pests and diseases are difficult to control.
Consumer tastes increasingly towards high quality products and ensure food safety standards, while production costs rise, prices fluctuate unpredictably. These factors are destabilizing the production and business of the global pepper industry.
Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh said that in recent years, Vietnam has strongly developed the pepper industry and is a leading exporter of pepper in the world and highly appreciated internationally for its quality. Annually, Vietnam's pepper output reaches about 250 thousand tons, accounting for about 40% of the global pepper output.
Currently in Vietnam there are about 200,000 farmer households focusing on pepper in the Central Highlands. Vietnam is currently the world's leading pepper exporter, not only exporting raw materials but also processing, and over the past time, it has also received positive support from IPC and pepper enterprises. .

According to Deputy Minister Doanh, the pepper industry is facing two big challenges in terms of quality and very strong price fluctuations. Specifically, from the commercial price of 10 USD / kg in the past decade, but now only a few USD.
However, due to the fact that the demand for pepper in the world is still very large, because not only used in the spice food industry but also used in beauty cosmetics industry. Therefore, in the coming time, Vietnam will focus on improving the quality of pepper production, processing and trade in order to meet more requirements of the global pepper market.
