In 2024, the Government decided to cut the import quota of maize, salt and sugar to promote domestic production and gradually towards the goal of self -sufficiency. Import quotas for these three items will be much lower than the expected needs of domestic industries, to encourage these industries to use more domestic input materials.
Indonesia’s total corn production of Indonesia is expected to reach 16.7 million tons, larger than domestic demand of 13 million tons. The Indonesian Statistical Agency (BPS) estimates that corn production increased to 15.2 tons in 2024, from 14.7 tons of 2023.
