According to Mr. Shamji, higher production costs, lower prices and cheap imports have forced farmers to switch to cardamom and need to produce more pepper by increasing yields.

Meanwhile, Mr. Rajiv Palicha, chairman of the All-India Spices Exporters Forum, said pepper production may be flat compared to last year due to some pepper growing areas in Karnataka expected yield. good.

Hence, the shortage in production in Kerala can be offset by the high production in Karnataka.

In addition, Mr. Palicha said that Indian pepper has a stable demand in the export market. According to some industry sources, India has consumed nearly 60,000 tons of pepper.

New varieties of pepper with enhanced immunity and the recovery of the hotel industry have increased demand in the domestic market.
