Spot prices continued to rise sharply as supply remained tight despite reports of import of pepper from Vietnam and Sri Lanka, but prices are also rising, according to market sources for Business Line know.
According to importers, the Sri Lankan pepper for the old crop, bulk grade 525 – 503 Gr / l is being sold at USD 10,000 / ton. American customers reported that Asta standard Vietnam black pepper is at 9,300 – 9,500 USD / ton.
In the past week, almost no transactions were recorded on national and regional exchanges. On the spot market, pre-processed low-grade pepper is sold for Rs 720 per kg, while high mountain pepper is currently not available even at Rs 730 per kg.
According to dealers based on the pepper supply lines, immediate delivery from the major producing states was only about 30-35% compared to this time last year.
Spot prices soared to Rs 72,000 / quintal (US $ 12,022 / ton) for the pint and 74,500 Rs / quintal (US $ 12,440 / ton) for the pre-processed grade.
Export price of MG1 special pepper was priced at 12,750 USD / ton, (c & f), for delivery to Europe and 13,000 USD / ton, (c & f), for goods to the US.
