On November 12, the International Pepper Association (IPC) held its 47th conference in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, with the participation of hundreds of domestic and international delegates. .

According to IPC’s assessment, pepper production and trading in the world is being affected by many adverse factors such as continuously falling prices, erratic weather and climate changes. Consumers are increasingly looking for high-quality products, ensuring food hygiene and safety, while prices are unpredictable, production costs increase…

As the world’s largest pepper producer and exporter, with an export volume of about 250,000 tons/year, according to Mr. Le Quoc Doanh – Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development – pepper production has created jobs for more than 200,000 households. Over the years, Vietnam’s pepper processing capacity has also been significantly improved, approaching world standards.

Mr. Doanh also acknowledged that the pepper industry is facing two big challenges: quality and price. In which, in the period 2015-2019, the price of pepper fell from 10 USD/kg to 2 USD/kg because in the period 2008-2014, the pepper growing area expanded quite large.

However, Mr. Doanh also assessed that the demand for pepper products in the world is still very large and pepper is not only used in food but also in health care, cosmetics and medicine.

“The problem is how to make farmers enjoy the best price” – Mr. Doanh asked the delegates.

Therefore, at this conference, the delegates discussed solutions to grow pepper sustainably, meet the requirements of use as well as focus on discussing issues related to improving the quality of production, processing and Commerce.

The conference took place in three days with a conference of importers and exporters, a technical conference, an exhibition of domestic and foreign importers and exporters, a visit to survey pepper gardens in Ba Ria – Vung Tau.
