VPA’s report also said that after 10 years, Vietnam’s pepper industry has grown and developed significantly. In 2001, the association had only 34 members, but now it has 105 members, attracting most of the domestic enterprises and enterprises with 100% foreign capital to participate.

Currently, Vietnam has become the leading pepper producer and exporter in the world. Vietnamese pepper is present in more than 80 countries and territories, in many major markets such as the US, Europe, Asia, the Middle East… Vietnamese pepper has occupied a dominant market share.

In 10 years, the average yield of pepper has increased from 3-5 tons/ha to 5-7 tons/ha, many households reach 7-9 tons/ha, especially up to 10 tons/ha. Meanwhile, the average yield of major producing and exporting countries such as India and Indonesia is only 0.2 – 0.3 tons/ha; higher than Malaysia, Brazil also only reach 1-2 tons/ha.

In terms of economic efficiency, with an area of ​​about 50,000 hectares, accounting for 2.5% of the total of nearly 2 million hectares of 5 industrial crops, pepper accounts for more than 8% of export value (export value of lake). pepper reached 6,886 USD/ha, 4 times higher than rubber; 3.8 times cashew nut; 2.6 times coffee; 6 times more tea).

In 2001, the whole country exported more than 50,000 tons of pepper, with a turnover of 90 million USD. By 2011, exports were nearly 120,000 tons, an increase of just over 120% in volume, but the turnover increased by 665%, reaching a value of US$693 million. It is expected that in 2012, exports can reach 850-900 million USD.

Mr. Do Ha Nam, President of VPA, said that in the past time, the association has mainly focused on activities such as creating opportunities and supporting farmers and businesses in the industry in the cultivation, processing and export of lakes. pepper; information on production situation, domestic and international market prices; Trade promotion support…

The association has successfully built the Chu Se (Gia Lai) pepper brand, gaining a great resonance in the international pepper community, creating an image, reputation and enhancing the value of Vietnamese pepper. Up to now, many localities in the country are also promoting the building of pepper brands and moving towards building a common national brand for Vietnamese pepper.

Mr. Do Ha Nam also added, Vietnam is currently leading the world in export pepper output, accounting for about 50% of global pepper exports, so it can actively regulate the selling price in the market. world.
