In agriculture and rural development, the export value of agriculture increased by 2.7% over the same period. In particular, livestock export is estimated at US $ 0.53 billion, up 8.6%. The main agricultural group is estimated at 13.9 billion USD, down 7.2%; fishery was estimated at 6.23 billion USD, down 2%. There are 6 groups / products with export value of more than US $ 2 billion, including: wood and wood products (US $ 7.5 billion, up 16.8%); coffee (US $ 2.1 billion, down 21.8%), rice (nearly US $ 2.24 billion, down 9.8%), cashews (US $ 2.4 billion, down 5.4%), vegetables, fruits (US $ 2.15 billion, down 4.3%), shrimp (US $ 2.4 billion, down 8.0%). Import turnover is estimated at US $ 23.16 billion, down 0.7% over the same period in 2018.
The agriculture sector also frankly acknowledged besides the above-mentioned results, in the past 9 months, the industry's activities still have some shortcomings and problems.
The growth rate of cultivation and husbandry is low, not reaching the set target. The main reason is due to the negative impact of abnormal weather which reduces the cultivated area and annual crop production (especially rice, vegetables); Severe effects of African swine cholera.
Although ministries and localities have actively implemented measures to prevent and fight forest fires, but due to prolonged hot weather, forest fires still occur in some central provinces, causing damage of 1,900 ha of forest, 5 times more , 4 times the area damaged in 2018.
In particular, the growth rate of export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products has shown signs of slowing down. The main reason is due to the sharp decrease in export prices of key agricultural products over the same period in 2018; export turnover to some markets decreased, especially China market (estimated to decrease by 8%), EU (estimated to decrease by 6.5%); prices and export turnover of some items: coffee, rice, cashew nuts, cassava and products from cassava, shrimp and pangasius decreased deeply.
Although, the fishery sector has been trying to implement measures to overcome the EC's recommendations over the past time, but the progress has been made to resolve the removal of the EC's “Golden Card” for Vietnamese fishing. It is still slow, some provinces have not really paid attention to the inspection and supervision at fishing ports and the on-demand fishing vessel monitoring system.
