The change of the Vietnam Pepper Association into the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association is not merely a name change, but actually marks a new step in the development strategy of production and export of spices. taste of Vietnam, reaching out to the international market to build the image and prestige and value for the Vietnamese spice brand in general.

Ms. Hoang Thi Lien, elected to be the President of VPSA

Currently, out of all spices, only pepper has the support of the Association as an intermediary industry organization, acting as a bridge between production and market, building a national brand, etc. However, other spices of Vietnam have not been clearly located on the world spice map. The value obtained from spices by farmers is only low because it is mainly sold in the form of raw materials and through intermediaries. According to Ms. Hoang Thi Lien, because of the lack of a leading and coordinating role for the whole spice industry, the industry currently only stops at the level of spontaneous development based on the resources of each individual, at an individual level. each enterprise. The fragmented development, lack of links between businesses, between businesses and localities, between production and consumption is not enough to create a spillover effect for the whole industry to develop commensurate with the potential as well as the opportunity. festival.

Therefore, the renaming of the Vietnam Pepper Association VPA to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association VPSA will assign more tasks to support the spice import and export businesses and the spice production community. taste. It also means that hundreds of thousands of farmers who are attached to spices will have the opportunity to be supported in the production and business process by organizing production linkages with businesses that VPSA will provide. is the focal point to encourage implementation, have the opportunity to access market information, orient sustainable farming production… In economic terms, pepper is now a billion-dollar tree, the name changed to Lake Association. Pepper and spice plants on the basis of the Pepper Association will be the foundation for Vietnamese spice plants to accelerate development. “The name change will help bring together more businesses operating in the spice industry. It is expected that the total export turnover of Vietnamese spices by 2025 will reach about 2 billion USD with the export volume of all kinds of spices about 500,000 tons,” said Ms. Lien.

Expanding the mission and operational functions VPSA will have a fuller status and position as a representative of the spice industry, promoting investment attraction and financial and technical support from many organizations, especially international organizations for sustainable development, contributing to improving product quality, brand development, taking advantage of benefits from international integration to promote bringing Vietnamese spice products to the world market. world and position Vietnamese spice brand in the world spice supply chain.

Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong, Director of the Department of Crop Production – Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that besides pepper, other spice products are also developing and reaching out to the international market because spices have become popular. become an indispensable ingredient in the meals of people in many countries around the world, especially Muslim countries (accounting for a quarter of the world’s population).

According to preliminary assessment, the actual development of pepper and spices in Vietnam has only exploited about 50% of its potential. That means, if it is interested in developing, supporting to connect more with the market and orient the production to plan the sustainable commodity industry, to meet the market demand, the export turnover of pepper and spices will increase. can reach 2-3 billion USD/year.

According to Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong, this name change will be a favorable condition for the spice industry to fully evaluate the status of production and business. At the same time, through the Association, representing the unified voice of the industry to carry out trade promotion activities, share information on demand, connect the market in order to improve the value and position of the products. Vietnamese spices.

Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association VPSA needs to better promote its role as a bridge between producers, processing and exporting enterprises in order to build a sustainable link chain, bringing practical economic benefits. for farmers and businesses. Besides, the Association also needs to actively participate in proposing state management agencies in formulating and criticizing development policies of the whole industry. The agricultural industry will continue to accompany and expect the Pepper Association to change its name to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association to continue promoting the role of a commodity association, as an effective bridge between farmers. , enterprises and state management agencies”, emphasized Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong.

Meanwhile, according to Mr. Le Hoang Tai – Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Department – Ministry of Industry and Trade, the development potential of Vietnam’s spice industry is still very large in the next 10 years, if the spice industry can a unified voice, there is an industry association to perform an effective leadership role.
