AGRICULTURE AND LIVESTOCKING STILL DIFFERENT, AQUATIC PROFIT

According to the General Statistics Office, agricultural, forestry and fishery production, in the South, as of mid-May, 2022, the winter-spring rice crop has basically been harvested.

According to reports from localities, this year’s winter-spring rice yield of the region is estimated at 69.3 quintals/ha, down 1.7 quintals/ha compared to the previous year’s winter-spring crop, mainly due to high fertilizer prices, so farmers People limited investment along with the impact of unseasonal rain on a large scale from last month. Winter-spring rice production in the southern provinces is estimated at 13.3 million tons, down 358.9 thousand tons.

Along with rice cultivation, localities across the country are planting cash crops. However, the acreage of sweet potatoes, soybeans, and peanuts continued to decrease over the same period last year mainly due to low economic efficiency and high fertilizer prices.

If in the coming time, the area of this group of crops continues to decrease, it will affect the initiative in domestic raw materials to produce animal feed.

Like cultivation, the livestock sector also faces many difficulties due to the high price of seed, the price of animal feed continuously increasing, there is still no sign of stopping.

In contrast, with the seafood industry, it is very favorable. Fishery production in May 2022 was estimated at 756.9 thousand tons, up 2.9% over the same period last year. The weather in the month is favorable for rearing and stocking.

Besides, the price of pangasius has increased, so pangasius farmers have made a good profit. Pangasius production in the month was estimated at 134.1 thousand tons, up 9.6% over the same period last year. The price of raw shrimp for the month in the Mekong Delta provinces was stable compared to the previous month.

Vannamei shrimp is entering the harvest season, the model of intensive farming, super-intensive farming in two stages, active development of high technology, has brought about high economic efficiency. Vannamei shrimp production in May 2022 was estimated at 57.5 thousand tons, up 15.9% over the same period last year; black tiger shrimp production reached 22.2 thousand tons, down 0.4%.

In general, in the first 5 months of 2022, fishery production was estimated at 3,356.9 thousand tons, up 2.3% over the same period last year due to positive results from aquaculture, especially aquatic products. Key products such as pangasius and white leg shrimp have continuously increased production from March 2022.

General Statistics Office.

Aquaculture production in the first 5 months of the year was estimated at 1,769.3 thousand tons, up 5.5% over the same period last year. fishing output reached 1,587.6 thousand tons, down 1% over the same period last year.

Although the output of aquatic products and forest products increased and the export value of agricultural products increased by nearly 17%, the profits of farmers have not increased commensurately, but are showing signs of decline. Even the number of farmers falling into losses is increasing.

Mr. Luong Quoc Doan, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association, said: “The most prominent problem that agricultural production is facing is that recently, the price of agricultural materials and animal feed has been at the same time. increased, most commodities increased very high compared to before the Covid-19 epidemic, causing many farmers to suffer losses, many people had to hang up barns, abandoned fields and gardens to temporarily stop growing.

“Farmers are the most disadvantaged when the price of input materials increases rapidly, specifically the price of fertilizers has increased by 250%, the price of animal feed also increases, while the output of agricultural products faces many difficulties. due to the impact of the pandemic,” Doan emphasized.

Mr. Le Minh Hoan, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Regarding saving input costs, I think there are many ways. I have visited models in many localities, farmers already know how to reduce input costs by choosing circular economy models, taking advantage of by-products in agricultural production.

This approach has helped farmers significantly reduce the cost of buying fertilizers and agricultural materials, which is also a way to reduce costs. Or we can go to the cooperative to buy together, buy all kinds of agricultural materials in bulk to save costs and increase efficiency in production. Third, we need to gradually become self-sufficient in some raw materials in the production of animal and aqua feeds, especially those that are being imported in large quantities from abroad. Reducing costs is imperative and can be done if we are determined. The most important is the right solution.
