HotieuthuonghieucopyMany pepper exporting enterprises have been returned by their partners, mainly raw pepper (accounting for 85% of export volume) due to unsatisfactory quality (!?).

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Oanh – Vice President and General Secretary of Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA) – said that in 2014, pepper export turnover reached a record, over 1.2 billion USD. However, in the first quarter of 2015, many businesses reflected that export pepper was returned, mainly raw pepper, accounting for 85% of export volume, due to unsatisfactory quality. In particular, since 2015, the EU began tightening regulations on the quality of imported pepper.

According to Oanh, most farmers now tend to store pepper for sale, so maybe they used carbedazim to eliminate mushrooms for pepper. Moreover, like other agricultural products, pepper is now purchased through traders, so the quality of pepper sold to exporting enterprises is not equal.

The Pepper Association recommends that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development need to survey and assess whether pepper has a pesticide residue at the present time and if so, at what stage in the cultivation process? Due to limited knowledge of farmers, due to abuse to ensure production or by the purchasing process? …

Currently, pepper area is increasing hot but in many places, farmers still lack experience in caring for pepper. Therefore, it is necessary to promote agricultural extension and open training courses to help farmers grow pepper in a sustainable and safe manner. However, many localities have given their opinions, because there is no standard cultivation process for pepper, so the localities have difficulties in training on techniques of planting and tending pepper plants for farmers.
