Despite being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the export value of agro-forestry-fishery products grew strongly, exceeding the set plan, reaching 24 billion USD, up 28%, equivalent to 53% of the whole year plan.
At the conference to review the first 6 months of the year and deploy the work tasks for the last 6 months of 2021, Mr. Nguyen Van Viet, Director of the Planning Department (MARD) said: “Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, 19 but the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first 6 months of the year still increased strongly, exceeding the set plan, reaching more than 24 billion USD, up more than 28% over the same period in 2020.
Thus, in the first 6 months of the year, export turnover reached 53% of the year plan of 45 billion USD.
“The agricultural industry has achieved the target of exporting agricultural products of 45 billion USD for the whole year (higher than the Government’s allocation of 3 billion USD) by focusing on key export products, compensating for products that are difficult to achieve the target. Export turnover for the whole year such as main agricultural products is 21.5 billion USD, forest products and furniture are 14 billion USD, seafood is 8.5 billion USD, “said Mr. Viet.

Notably, commodities such as rubber, tea, vegetables, cashew nuts, cassava and cassava products increased both in export volume and value.
Specifically, rubber exports increased by more than 41% in volume and 80% in value. Cashew nut exports increased by 22%, up 11% in value. Exports of cassava and cassava products increased by 16% in volume and 30.5% in value.
Particularly, although the export volume decreased, it only reached 155,000 tons, down nearly 7%. But thanks to the increase in export prices, the export value still increased, reaching 499 million USD, up 40.5%.
Other items increased in value mainly by volume such as: export of wood and wood products reached 8.1 billion USD, up nearly 75%. Export of rattan, bamboo and sedge mats reached about 447 million USD, up nearly 79%, shrimp export nearly 1.7 billion USD, up 8.5%.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the export market in the first 6 months of the year changed direction when the US was the largest export market with a turnover of about $6.7 billion, up nearly 60% over the same period in 2020, accounting for nearly 28 % export value.
China ranked second with export turnover of $4.7 billion, up 32% over the same period in 2020 and accounting for nearly 20% of total export value.
