With the recent high price of durian in the Central Highlands, most people are excited, hoping this specialty fruit will also bring high income in the upcoming season.
In just over a month, durian in the Southern region will begin to harvest off-season. With the recent increase in durian prices in the Central Highlands, most people are excited, with the hope that this specialty fruit will also bring high income in the upcoming season.
Durian joy increases in price
These days, gardeners in Ngu Hiep island commune, Cai Lay district are busy taking care of the durian garden that is starting to bear fruit. With 2.3 hectares of 30-year-old durian, even though it has just produced young fruit, the owner of this garden is very excited.
The price of durian in the Eastern and Central Highlands regions is lower than durian in the West, about 30,000 VND per kg, but currently, gardeners update information daily, the selling price is increasing to 90,000 VND/kg at the garden. In the upcoming harvest, farmers are sure to have a favorable harvest and prices will also be high.
According to most gardeners, the weather this year is not favorable. Despite careful care, the rate of durian fruits this season is not high. Output is likely to decrease by about 30% compared to normal levels. However, with current prices, gardeners still believe that the coming crop will still yield high harvest efficiency.
Last year, Vietnam’s durian exports reached their highest value in September and October, with nearly 500 million USD per month. This year, there are not many durians left in the Western region and the upcoming crop’s output will decline. Durian prices continue to increase, ordinary gardeners can still stabilize their income of more than billion VND per hectare. For households that take care of durian and achieve good yields, this will be a rare opportunity.
Soon export the first batch of frozen durian to China
2.5 billion USD is an impressive number that durian brought to our country in just the past 9 months, an unprecedented record number in history. Vietnamese durian is highly appreciated for its quality and the price is also more competitive. Thanks to that, the amount of durian exports has increased and there is still much room for development in the Chinese market.
Regarding the export of frozen durian, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association said that businesses are completing procedures for approval of planting area codes and packaging facilities. It is expected that in November, the first batch of frozen durian will be exported to China, with the possibility of reaching a turnover of 400 – 500 million USD this year.
