On April 30, it was recorded that in some localities in the Mekong Delta, durian prices ranged from 55,000-75,000 VND/kg, down about 10,000 VND/kg compared to 2 weeks ago and about 55,000-60,000 VND/kg compared to with early March.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, Director of Chanh An Durian Cooperative (Mang Thit district, Vinh Long province), said durian prices are decreasing compared to before. Currently, traders buy durian in buckets at the garden for about 60,000-70,000 VND/kg for the Ri6 variety.

“This year, the intense heat has burned the leaves, the fruit is not beautiful, and the yield has decreased. Durian prices increase and decrease due to market rules. There are no businesses selling durian here, they are mainly sold through traders. However, with a selling price of 60,000 VND/kg, farmers still earn a profit of 60-100 million VND/labor (1,000 m2)” – Mr. Trung said.

And Mr. Tran Thien Thanh, Deputy Director of Truong Phat Durian Cooperative (Can Tho City), said traders buy durian from cooperative members at a price of 62,000-63,000 VND/kg. “Durian prices have decreased because the Mekong Delta is in full harvest season. However, with the above selling price, farmers still have a profit of 500-600 million VND/ha. The cooperative has about 200 tons left and has been purchased by traders” – Mr. Thanh informed.

Durian is in its prime season, so many farmers post information on groups looking for buyers. Mr. Pham Thang (living in Tan Thoi commune, Phong Dien district, Can Tho city) has an 84-day-old durian garden with an output of about 10 tons.

Because it takes 90 days for durian to be harvested, I posted on social networking sites looking for someone to cut it. I sell buckets at the garden for only 58,000 VND/kg, hoping that a trader will come and buy them” – Mr. Thang said.
