In recent days, durian prices in Tien Giang province continue to decrease. Compared to more than a month ago, durian prices have decreased by about half.
Recorded in Cai Lay district, compared to more than a month ago, the price of Monthong (Thai) type A durian at the warehouse “peaked” at 230,000 VND/kg, while Ri6 type A durian was priced at about 150,000 VND/kg. However, durian prices have dropped sharply.

Specifically, on April 27, the price of Monthong type A durian (2.7 boxes, from 1.9 – 5.2 kg) was purchased by traders at prices ranging from 75,000 – 85,000 VND/kg, type B was priced at 75,000 – 85,000 VND/kg. 55,000 – 65,000 VND/kg (2.5 boxes, from 1.7 – 5.7 kg).
For Ri6 durian, type A is purchased at the price of 70,000 – 73,000 VND (2.7 boxes, from 1.9 – 5.2 kg), type B is 55,000 – 58,000 VND/kg (2.5 boxes, 1.7 kg). – 5.7 kg). At this price, durian prices have decreased by more than half compared to a month ago.
According to Vice Chairman of Tan Phong Commune People’s Committee Ho Thi Xuan Dao, in recent days, durian prices in the commune have continued to decrease; Among them, Monthong durian decreased more than Ri6 variety.
Specifically, Monthong durian is purchased by traders at the garden at prices ranging from 70,000 – 75,000 VND/kg, Ri6 durian is about 70,000 VND/kg (depending on the product).
“Previously, the price of Monthong durian was about tens of thousands of VND/kg higher than Ri6, but now the price of the two types is nearly equal. Currently, farmers in the commune are not harvesting many durians. This year, the durian crop failed due to the effects of leaf blight. In about a week, durian will begin its favorable season” – comrade Ho Thi Xuan Dao added.
According to a durian barn owner in Cai Lay district, there are currently not many durians in the district. The reason durian prices have dropped sharply is because they are “competing” with Thailand and Malaysia. Currently, other countries such as Thailand and Malaysia have begun harvesting durian in the main season.
Vietnamese durian is no longer “a single market” like before. Although durian prices have dropped sharply, at this level, farmers still earn quite high profits.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, currently the total durian growing area in the province is about 21,790 hectares, of which the area for the basic construction phase is 6,875 hectares and 14,915 hectares for fruit. To develop sustainable durian production and consumption, the province will strictly manage planning for durian trees.
One of the important solutions is to effectively implement the Plan for granting and managing MSVT of durian exports in Tien Giang province in the period of 2023 – 2025. The province will continue to improve the quality of durian products by many solutions.
