Since the beginning of this year, the price of Musang King durian has increased sharply, leaving two varieties of Monthong and Ri 6.
At garden houses, Musang King price ranges from VND 125,000-130,000 per kg, nearly double Monthong and Ri 6. If purchased at the warehouse, the price of type 1 is up to 160,000-170,000 VND, and type 2 is also at VND 120,000. This price increased by 60% compared to last year’s record low.
The price increases, many gardeners are excited because of significant profits. He wrote, a garden house in Can Tho, has just sold nearly 5 tons of durian for 125,000 VND per kg, said that it earned more than 600 million. Recalling previous years, when the price of this item continuously decreased, he had intended to cut down the whole garden, but then decided to keep it. “Looking at today’s achievements, I found the effort to spend many years worthy,” he shared.
Musang King durian quality in Vietnam is also gradually improving. Previously, this type was often embarrassed and pale due to the influence of the weather. However, thanks to the application of standard farming techniques, this year’s harvest products are not inferior to the imported goods from Malaysia. Durian rice is soft, flexible, gold, while the fruit reaches more uniform size.
Ms. Mai, a farmer in Tien Giang, owns 20 Musang King durian trees, saying this year, this type of durian has been paid more attention by exporting enterprises because the quality has improved significantly. Her garden has entered the 9th year, the fruit is no longer flabby or burnt. Thanks to good pollination techniques and reasonable moisture control, her garden output increased by 30% compared to last year.
Explaining the price fever of Musang King, Mr. Dang Manh Khuong – owner of a durian purchasing establishment in Can Tho – said that this area of planting in Vietnam has decreased due to two consecutive years of price. Meanwhile, demand for consumption, both in the country and export, increasing, pushing prices to high levels. In particular, Japan, Korea and the US are very fond of this melancholy.
Another reason is that Malaysia has lost crops, many businesses from this country have come to Vietnam to find a replacement supply, causing the price to skyrocket.
According to the Durian Association of Dak Lak, the Musang King planting area in Vietnam is decreasing, but this variety still has the potential to develop if cultivated. This type for the best harvest from the 10th year, while many gardens are currently entering the 4th year, so the quality is still not stable. As a high -end durian variety, Musang King is quite difficult to grow and requires high technology. But for those who have invested well, this is still a strong competitive option in the domestic and export markets.
Originating from Malaysia, Musang King has been tested in the Central Highlands and the Mekong Delta for many years. However, to achieve high profits, plants need enough 10 years old for the best yield. The identity characteristics of this type of melancholy are oval, dark green skin with large spines. However, for sustainable development, according to the Durian Association of Dak Lak, the Department of Crop Production should research and plan appropriate planting areas, guide garden houses to apply effective farming techniques to optimize productivity and quality.
