Current market records show that durian prices at retail locations are still high. Specifically, Ri6 durian costs 130,000 VND/kg, Thai durian costs 110,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, at some supermarkets, Ri6 durian costs 95,000 VND/kg.

Notably, some places have signs selling Chaly durian and Thai Dona durian with flat seeds, priced at 80,000-85,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Nghia, owner of a place selling durian in Tan Binh district, Ho Chi Minh City, said that Chaly durian is a Thai variety, this type has sticky, fatty rice with carrot orange color. Last year, Chaly durian was priced at more than 100,000 VND/kg, but this year the price is cheaper due to the slow consumption in the Chinese market.

Mr. Huynh Tan Loc, Director of Ngu Hiep Durian Cooperative, Tien Giang province, said that in recent days, durian prices have fluctuated up and down. Type A durian is currently priced at 77,000-78,000 VND/kg, while previously it was priced at 80,000-85,000 VND/kg, with type B durian 15 miles away (equivalent to 15,000 VND).

“With the purchasing price of 78,000 VND/kg plus costs, if we continue to sell to the Chinese market, it is definitely not profitable. Besides, even though the Chinese market is slow, traders are still competing to buy, so durian purchasing activities are competitive and risky. I just finished selling five shipments and am resting at home. It will take more than a month for durian season in the West to continue purchasing and exporting,” Mr. Loc said.

Mr. Phung Van Long, Director of Ea Sol Farm Agricultural Cooperative (Dak Lak), said that in recent times durian prices have increased, there are beautiful gardens with prices priced at more than 90,000 VND/kg. His family’s garden alone is priced at 68,000 VND/kg. This is a profitable price and the garden is currently sold out.

According to Mr. Long, durian prices have generally dropped to 70,000-75,000 VND/kg, depending on the garden. Therefore, the gardens have set prices of more than 80,000 VND/kg and traders have not come in to cut them.

According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, Dak Lak is in the durian season, at the same time Chinese people are on the National Day holiday and a lot of goods are coming from Vietnam. , due to market conflicts, durian prices were affected.

“There are still a few weeks left until Dak Lak durian season will end, then Gia Lai’s durian season will come and from the end of November to early December is the Western durian season. With the advantage of being available all year round, Vietnamese durian will meet the consumption needs of the Chinese market” – Mr. Nguyen said.

According to Mr. Nguyen, by the end of September durian exports were estimated to reach 1.5 billion USD and this year it is expected that durian exports will reach 1.8-2 billion USD.
