People in Dak Nong province are massively expanding their pepper growing area, despite the recommendations of authorities.
In the 2021 crop, the price of pepper increased to the highest level in the past 5 years, the price fluctuated at 65,000 VND to 70,000 VND/kg. The high prices are also the time when people in this locality massively expand the pepper growing area, despite the recommendations of the authorities.
Talking to PV Dan Viet Newspaper, Mr. Tran Van Vuong, residing in Dak Mil district (Dak Nong) said that his family is expanding the area to grow more pepper by destroying the area of old coffee trees and searching for them. buy hundreds of wooden pillars to grow pepper.
Mr. Vuong said: “I bought more than 500 wooden pillars to grow more pepper. Although prices sometimes go up, sometimes down and are also very worried, but now they can only run because pepper prices are increasing and somewhat stable, so the family decided to break coffee to grow pepper in the hope of winning. several seasons to have a more stable life.”
Many other farming households in Dak Mil, Krong No, Dak Song, Tuy Duc districts… are also actively looking to buy wooden pillars to prepare to expand their pepper area. Some households also poured concrete pillars to plant pepper in the rainy season.
Mr. Huynh Tan Phat, resident of Krong No district, is busy taking care of about 800 peppers he planted himself and investing in buying 800 wooden pillars to plant in the rainy season this year. Mr. Phat shared: “Hopefully in the coming years, pepper prices will continue to increase or at least keep prices stable like now for farmers to reduce suffering.”
Also in Krong No district, Mr. Le Van Cuong currently has 1.5ha of pepper in business. This year, his family collected more than 4 tons of pepper. With the current selling price fluctuating around 70,000 VND/kg, his family made a profit of about 160 million VND after deducting expenses.
Mr. Cuong said that his family is buying 500 wooden pillars to plant more to replace the old coffee and cashew acreage. That’s why this year I decided to invest about 60 million VND to buy 500 wooden pillars to grow pepper to replace the ineffective coffee trees,” said Mr. Cuong.
Mr. Doan Gia Loc, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Krong No district (Dak Nong), said that the whole district has more than 1,000 hectares of pepper, of which most of it has been harvested.
The price of pepper this year is generally higher than every year, so people have expanded the area of this crop. However, this will face many risks because the market is forecasted to be still volatile.
Facing the above situation, the agricultural sector has advised people to be careful and consider expanding the pepper area.
Information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong province, the demand for pepper in the world has not yet increased dramatically, the actual situation shows that the supply of pepper continues to exceed demand.
Currently, the province has about 33,000 hectares of pepper. To ensure the balance between supply and demand, in the long term, the province will plan and keep a stable pepper area of about 27,000 hectares.
Therefore, agricultural experts also advise people to be careful and consider not to continue massively planting pepper to avoid risks.
