About a month ago, many press agencies reported that Chinese traders through a number of agricultural purchasing agents in Dak Lak bought high prices of pepper, disrupting the domestic pepper market, causing damage to consumers. people and businesses.
However, according to the authorities of Dak Lak province, this is incorrect information. The situation of pepper production, trading and export in Dak Lak province is still stable.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Head of Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Cu Kuin district, said that Cu Kuin district has nearly 2,300 hectares of pepper with an output of about 6,000 tons of dry pepper per year.
In recent years, pepper has been well priced, so farmers are excited to compete for production. With the current price of about 190,000 VND/kg of pepper, many households have become rich thanks to pepper.
From the beginning of the year until now, the situation of pepper production, trading in the district has remained stable, there is no situation of Chinese traders coming to buy high-priced pepper, causing market turmoil.
“We have not heard people complain that Chinese traders come to the district to buy pepper, causing damage to people and businesses. If there is such a situation, the extension workers in the communes will report it immediately. I regularly meet with commune chairmen about the situation of agricultural production in the area, but no one has said anything about this issue,” said Mr. Khoi.
Previously, as reflected by the press, around the end of April and the beginning of May 2015, in Cu Kuin district (Dak Lak) appeared a situation of Chinese traders through Vietnamese traders buying pepper at high prices. sky high and then disappeared, causing great damage to agents, people and disrupting the pepper market.
Their trick is to silently collect pepper from the people, push the price up, then go to the dealers to buy in bulk. When the amount of pepper in the population is no longer available, traders launch the previously collected goods to sell to dealers for a “huge” profit and then “silently play cards.”
There are reports that Chinese traders have hugged a shipment of about 100 tons with prices ranging from 175,000-180,000 VND/kg. They went to agent A to order a shipment of several tens of tons at the price of 185,000 VND/kg and only deposit as little as possible in advance with the request “quick pick up, get it now.”
With the same strategy, they went to agent B to order another shipment for 190,000 VND/kg with as little deposit as possible and “collect quickly, get it now”, causing the price of pepper to skyrocket. , scarcity of goods.
Once the price of pepper has been pushed up to a certain level, Chinese traders have begun to launch low-priced consignments already on the market. After that, they did not come to pick up the goods according to the order, they lost the deposit, but they sold 100 tons of high-priced pepper.
Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Dong, Head of E-Commerce Department, Department of Industry and Trade of Dak Lak, said that the Department had heard information that Chinese traders pushed the purchase price of pepper in Dak Lak market causing market disturbances. When the Department checked and verified, this situation did not exist, but only rumors among the people.
However, Dak Lak Department of Industry and Trade has also sent an official dispatch to import-export enterprises, agricultural product trading enterprises and the People’s Committees of districts, towns and cities in the province to warn in order to prevent the situation. purchasing unusual agricultural products in the province from foreign traders.

Through the above unusual purchase of agricultural products, foreign traders spread the news of buying in large quantities, creating virtual demand to push prices up, manipulating the market; When the market price is very high compared to the actual purchase price of the import-export enterprises and domestic agricultural enterprises, the traders disappear. In essence, the goods are not consumed domestically or exported, but passed between hands, the beneficiaries are foreign traders and the losers are farmers and domestic purchasing agents.
Therefore, the Department of Industry and Trade recommends and recommends that import-export enterprises, agricultural business enterprises in the province need to raise their vigilance against the purchase of agricultural products by foreign traders who show signs of inequality. often. The purchase and sale process needs to clarify information such as: purchase purpose, address of the partner to be purchased, business registration, economic contract, form of payment … “
Ms. Dong also said that at present, the situation of buying, selling and exporting pepper in Dak Lak is taking place normally.
In the first five months of the year, enterprises in the province exported more than 2,600 tons of pepper, with a turnover of more than 22.2 million USD. Compared with the same period last year, down 14.3% in volume but up 13.6% in value.
