According to the analysis of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the decline in coffee prices is due to the world supply is forecast to increase sharply when the weather in Brazil is very favorable for the coffee crop and Indonesia has started to harvest new crops, putting pressure on coffee price.
Similarly, domestic pepper prices also fluctuated in a downward trend in May. Compared to the end of 2017, the prices of pepper in Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Ba Ria Vung Tau and Dong Nai have dropped by 11,000 – 13,000. VND / kg to VND 58,000 – VND 61,000 / kg.
Pepper prices decreased due to abundant supply and weak demand. Pepper market in June is forecasted to be quiet due to excessive supply-demand conflict.
The volume of coffee and pepper exports in May 2018 also decreased sharply, specifically coffee decreased by 17%; pepper decreased by 21%. The average export price of coffee in the first 4 months of 2018 reached US $ 1,936 / ton, down 15%, the export price of pepper was only US $ 3,537 / ton, down 42% over the same period in 2017.
