The project “Sustainable pepper supply chain development” is implemented by SNV Netherlands Development Organization, Nedspice Spice Processing Co., Ltd in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The objective of the project is to support the development of a sustainable pepper production model through the formation of groups of farmers participating in the project and associated with certified consumption channels. The project “Development of a sustainable pepper supply chain” was assigned by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to the Binh Phuoc Center for Agriculture and Fisheries Extension. Up to now, the project has completed phase 1 (2013 – 2015).
The implementation of the project “Development of a sustainable supply chain” has brought some high results to farmers in production and consumption. Currently, the project has established 24 clubs for sustainable pepper production in 3 districts of Bu Dop, Loc Ninh and Hon Quan in Binh Phuoc province.
The project has trained more than 700 farmers on techniques and principles of sustainable pepper farming under RA (Rainforest Alliance) and certified 540 farmers for good practice and compliance with RA principles. The project connects certified pepper product consumption channels for clubs participating in the project with Nedspice Vietnam Spices Processing Co., Ltd., and contributes to improving the position and brand of Binh Phuoc pepper. highly appreciated by international customers.
Ms. Le Thi Anh Tuyet, Director of Binh Phuoc Center for Agricultural and Industrial Promotion, said that up to now, the Provincial Center for Fisheries and Agricultural Extension has established a project management board with 24 members.
