According to the Import and Export Department, in August, domestic black pepper prices increased. On August 29, the price of black pepper increased compared to July 30. At the same time, exports also recorded a slight increase.

The highest growth rate was 5.6% in Dong Nai province, reaching 47,500 VND / kg; the lowest growth rate of 3.1% in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, reaching 50,000 VND / kg.

The price of white pepper was 67,000 VND / kg, an increase of 1,500 VND / kg (equivalent to an increase of 2.3%) compared to the end of July, but still lower than 69,000 VND / kg in the same period in 2019.

According to the estimate of the Import and Export Department, pepper exports in August reached 18 thousand tons, worth $ 45 million, down 0.1% in volume but up 0.3% in value compared to July, compared to July. 8/2019 decreased 4.6% in volume and 3% in value.

In the first 8 months of 2020, pepper exports reached 203 thousand tons, worth $ 445 million, down 7.4% in volume and 19.9% ​​in value over the same period in 2019.

In August, the average export price of pepper was estimated at 2,500 USD / ton, an increase of 0.4% compared to July and an increase of 1.6% compared to August 2019.

In the first 8 months of 2020, the average export price of pepper was estimated at 2,198 USD / ton, down 13.5% over the same period in 2019.

According to calculations from the General Department of Customs, in July, ground black pepper exports increased by 219.9% ​​in volume and 194.5% in value compared to July 2019, reaching 5.2 thousand tons, worth 14.35 million USD.

In the first 7 months of 2020, the export of ground black pepper increased by 36.7% in volume and 24.3% in value over the same period in 2019, reaching 18.9 thousand tons, worth $ 53.75 million. .

In particular, exports of ground black pepper to most major markets recorded high growth from 2 to 3 digits, such as the US, UK, Netherlands, Japan, Australia, Thailand, Sweden, Chinese, Korean.

Notably, the export of ground black pepper to Germany increased by 353.8%; Chile increased 2.73.3%.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Agriculture and Rural Development) said that the outbreak and spread of the Covid-19 pandemic had and is having a serious impact on the global trade and supply chain of pepper, including Vietnam.

In 2020, according to the Vietnam Pepper Association, Vietnam’s pepper output will reach about 240,000 tons, down 15% compared to 2019.

This creates more difficulties for pepper exporters. Accordingly, the export target of 280 thousand tons of pepper, with a value of USD 800 million, is forecasted to be difficult in 2020.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends Vietnamese enterprises to research and process, increase added value for pepper products, limit raw exports, learn from India’s experience in developing the spice industry and real processing technology. Products.

The Vietnam Pepper Association needs to enhance its role in guiding the production and export of products, enhance the detection and warning of unusual import and export activities and signs of violation of importing country regulations, strengthen coordinating with commodity lines in importing countries.
