Signals from the market, 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Euro finals. At that time, tourists increased, the demand for food was higher. Seafood is a favorite food source. This is only a bright spot which is not very large but it is meant to create momentum for the seafood processing industry to make a breakthrough in the long run.
In fisheries, the overall achievement is shrimp, catfish and seafood, this tripod position is quite balanced. But in the trend of sustainable development, the farming sector has the upper hand. Seafood must proceed to focus on developing marine farming. Our Marine Aquaculture Association is necessary and timely. There must be something that praises the members who campaigned and formed this Association.
Marine farming, at first, is not strong, but shrimp and pangasius farming has been a key industry with two or three decades of seniority. Our pangasius production can be higher, even doubled today, but there is a problem of supply and demand balance. Saying this point to emphasize the flexible capacity of pangasius farmers … When the world market has many sources of white meat fish such as pollock, tilapia, seabass, cod, Pangasius has to calculate amount cannot be too high, create redundancy, reduce price, cause loss. White meat fish is being held in many countries in the world but the information of our farmers does not know, as evidenced at this time, seabass in the Mekong Delta is only 40,000 VND per kg. Cost price is from 50,000 VND. Pangasius is having the same plight, being upset or increasing !!!
From this perspective, it is somewhat pessimistic, but actually Pangasius industry is trying to transform. Processing enterprises (businesses) are exploring and processing new fish products to increase fish value and attract consumers; Many businesses have had solutions to increase revenue from fish by-products, processing very competitive items such as products from fish skin, fish fat, fish stomach, and fish bubble. I went to China, saw in the supermarket a lot of fried fish bones wrapped, very eye-catching packaging and high prices, is also a direction for their tra fish. When increasing many values from the by-products, contributing to reducing the price of pangasius products, the competitiveness of pangasius with other white-market pangasius products increases.
Another solution is that businesses are deploying to exploit the domestic market by creating products that are suitable for domestic consumption. This is a big, potential space, left open for long time. Especially pork prices are too high, consumers are looking for alternative meat sources, softer prices. Enterprises which are speeding ahead will certainly not have small revenue. In macro, it is certain that the Pangasius Association will coordinate with the leaders of Pangasius farming provinces to supervise the farming households, calculate the appropriate farming area, ensure the ponds meet the prescribed standards and master the yield. Since then, businesses will be easier to calculate in business. In short, although the Pangasius color is not very bright at this time, the inside is having a “revolution” originating from a number of large enterprises with potential and vision. They are researching new products, making better use of by-products, researching superiority fingerlings, minimizing losses in ponds and better weight gain fish; pay attention to exploiting the potential domestic market. In parallel, efforts will be made to maintain and maintain appropriate production. Since then, the pangasius has gradually encroached on the field and the pangasius production will increase accordingly.
Over the years, the weather has been favorable for shrimp farming. As a result, the output of farmed shrimp has a good growth rate, even though it is only a figure. But the plight of shrimps is as bad as Pangasius. Many major shrimp farming countries have national programs to accelerate shrimp supply. The most prominent are India and Ecuador. Consequently, the supply showed signs of surpassing demand, leading to a sharp drop in the price of shrimp sold in the international market. Vietnamese shrimp are also plunging into this game.
To increase competitiveness, shrimp farming countries are seeking solutions to reduce shrimp prices, focusing on farming. For farming to have good results, the recovery ratio must be high and the feed loss coefficient is low. In order to do so, there must be an advanced farming process, able to better control the shrimp development process. Shrimp seed must be clean or disease resistant; shrimp grow fast … Our Vietnamese shrimp, with the support from the Government and concerned ministries and agencies, has made great efforts over the years. However, the major disadvantage in our shrimp industry is that the price of farmed shrimp is still high compared to the world level.
Analyzing this disadvantage will find many knots. The first bottleneck is not enough good shrimp. We have over two thousand shrimp hatcheries but the control of the authorities is limited. As long as the word “floating shrimp” is high, the success rate of the pond is low, of course the price is still high. The second bottleneck is most farmers run out of capital, due to quite heavy losses, especially in the period 2010-2015 due to devastating acute hepatopancreatic necrosis. Due to lack of capital, farmers accept to invest food (sometimes breeds) from dealers. The price is 20-30%, so the price of shrimp farming is not competitive … The next big downside is that small-scale shrimp farming is common. Small because each household has a small land area and is limited. This leads to the risk that it is difficult to have uniform quality and traceability. Another disadvantage is that most of the farming areas are highly spontaneous, especially when shrimp has high prices, people rush to make massively ponds, breaking plans. This has led to the spread of diseases, which lowers the biosecurity of the farming areas.
Problems of shrimp seed, capital, infrastructure for farming areas … of course the Government and the Ministries see it. But to convert, sorting takes time and money. The Government has issued many guidelines to encourage investment in the field of agricultural production, with shrimp farming; encourage the domestication of broodstock; dissemination of advanced shrimp farming technologies without large land areas … These solutions have had positive initial results. However, it is necessary to accelerate and solve the bottleneck, which is to expand credit for shrimp farming and expand land accumulation to form large shrimp farms, convenient for technology investment and standard shrimp farming. Internationally, attracting consumption of high-class distribution systems, elevating Vietnamese shrimp in the international market.
In fact, at this time, starting the main crop of 2020, Vietnamese shrimp and large shrimp farming areas around the world are worried about the outbreak of diseases, such as EHP and white manure, without any treatment regimen. clear treatment. Only general preventive measures are available. The most recent global shrimp conference forecasted that by 2020, shrimp supply and demand would grow at an average rate of about 5% and shrimp prices would remain low. But these negative points do not blur the advantages of Vietnamese shrimp. Our shrimp processing industry is at a high level in the world, retaining surplus value to share with farmers. Businesses are flexible in consuming shrimp. We look at the market structure over the years to see that the market share trend in the EU and Japan has increased, in the United States. This is a very good signal, because there are too many countries participating in the supply of shrimp in the United States, of which Indian shrimp has a very cheap price advantage and Indonesian shrimp without tax advantage accounts for over 50% of shrimp imports. of the United States.
With a high level of processing, Vietnamese shrimp focus on supplying markets that require great care in product processing but with more competitive prices. The direction to quality is the right and sustainable path. Vietnamese shrimp leads shrimp imports into Japan and this situation is repeated in Korea. In the EU, it is expected that after the EVFTA will contribute to increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese shrimp because there is no import tax, it is expected that sales in this market will increase sharply.
Welcome to 2020, it is clear that the seafood industry still has many bright spots, seafood has not been able to remove the yellow card, shrimp farming is still worried about outbreaks of disease, and Pangasius is worried about an unexpected excess … But looking at the long term, opportunities very big. The Government and Ministries are very concerned, always find ways to solve problems and difficulties. It is the biggest fulcrum that creates a source of excitement for the community members engaged in fisheries. The dynamism of the team of seafood businessmen is a leading role in pushing the seafood ship forward. Experience over the years has shown that after many stumbles, bravery and experience of the team involved in the fisheries industry has been raised. After the rain is shining again, we have the right to believe that the preparations that are already taking place in the industry will have extremely encouraging results in the coming years.
