The granting of plant area codes is a prerequisite and basic requirement for implementing the phytosanitary import regulations

In order to meet the above demand, the Plant Protection Department has issued over 1,200 planting area codes and 564 packers, and continues to update according to local requirements.

Granting the planting area code in the fruit tree area

Mr. Nguyen Van Liem, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vinh Long said: Vinh Long has nearly 44,500 hectares of fruit trees. Up to now, 113.14 hectares have been granted with area codes for mango (30.64 ha), rambutan (11.6 ha), grapefruit (50 ha) and longan (20.9). ha). The province has established a large scale specialized fruit tree growing area. However, the production is more heavy in quantity than quality.

To be issued a farmer's area code, farmers must produce according to safety standards. The granting of plant area codes is a prerequisite and basic requirement for implementing the phytosanitary import regulations. Area code is a certificate of identification code for a cultivation area in order to facilitate the monitoring and control of production situation and product quality control. At the same time, make sure the agricultural products put into circulation in the market must be of the right origin in that planting area.

The issuance of a code demonstrates strict management to ensure the safety of fruits before harvest. This is also the content of the goods record, perform traceability when needed.

Vinh Long province has 3 cooperatives and 4 mango cooperative groups granted the area code (code) for export to the US market. These cooperatives are concentrated in Quoi An, Quoi Thien, Trung Chanh, Tan Phu and Tan Quoi Trung communes (Vung Liem).

Vinh Long's sand mangoes are produced according to GAP standards, so they sell at a good price. Recently, Vinh Long province held a signing ceremony with companies specializing in exporting fruits into the US market such as Green Path, Vina T&T and opened expectations of Vinh Long mangoes in the US.

Mr. Tran Van Dang, Director of Quoi An sand mango cooperative (Vung Liem district) said: The cooperative is producing mangoes according to VietGAP standard with an area of more than 47ha. Mangoes of cooperatives have been given the area code, people are assured of production.

Recently, Vinh Long Crop Production and Plant Protection Department has developed AgriVinhlong1 software to help traders to trace the origin of agricultural products of the province. The software application group consists of 10 people, including two PhDs from the US and France (Vinh Long hometown) who voluntarily set up a technology support group to help farmers to export products according to GAP standards.

Now the gardener has an app to track information related to him. There are still two weeks left until the mango harvest season, downloading the AgriVinhlong1 app will know the list of cooperatives, farmer's name, area, and expected production in red ”, added Dr. Dinh.

In Dong Thap, Mr. Le Van Tam, Chairman of the Provincial Horticulture Association, said: In recent years, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection has trained many growers on VietGAP standards. There are currently 15 mango planting areas on 487 ha granted production area codes. In the coming time, will continue to coordinate training to expand the area of raw materials granted code.

To be issued with a code of a concentrated area of 10 ha or more. Each garden is allocated a code number that must be located. This is a document to prove product quality. In production areas, there must be a clear production diary. At the same time, there is a separate area for gathering and destroying pesticide packaging.

Particularly, Can Tho City has a total area of 18,466 hectares of fruit trees, an increase of 556 hectares over the same period last year. To date, the whole city has more than 101 hectares of fruit trees of 110 households in VietGAP certified cooperatives and cooperatives, with Hoa Loc mangoes, longan, milky breast, jackfruit, orange, and melon. private.

Over the past time, the Can Tho agriculture sector has actively guided farmers to follow good agricultural production practices. At the same time, strengthening linkage, forming fruit-growing specialized areas, granting planting region codes, ensuring traceability.

Must change the mindset

Marketing expert, Mr. Michel Delafon, CEO of Michel Delafon B2B Co., Ltd. said that Traceability of agricultural products is very important today. Michel Delafon took the image of a comparable shark, if kept in the lake forever small, only when the ocean can grow. In production and business, too, it is necessary to boldly change, reaching out to the big sea to become stronger and stronger.

Mr. Michel Delafon, an example of two agricultural products that Vietnam has strengths are pepper and farmed shrimp. However, pepper prices are at a very low level, while costs tend to increase. In 2019, it is considered to be very difficult for Vietnam's pepper industry when the price is low, growing slowly over the same period. As for shrimp, Vietnam is the second largest farming country in the world and has exported to more than 100 countries, reaching a turnover of 3.55 billion USD (in 2018). However, shrimp prices are unlikely to increase due to abundant supplies.

Mr. Hoang Trung Kien, Director of Kien Giang Agricultural Extension Center, said: Kien Giang has products identified as key and advantageous, such as rice output of 4 million tons / year, seafood and livestock. cattle and poultry. To compete in a market economy, it is necessary to have high quality, high quality products and timely delivery. Want to do so must associate with the business. In particular, to build brands, traceability for better consumption.

Mr. Le Van Thiet, Deputy Director of Plant Protection Department said: In order for domestic agricultural products to strongly penetrate into markets in the world and sell at high prices, agricultural products must be produced in the direction of VietGAP or GlobalGAP. Therefore, it is necessary to change the habit of using feces and chemical drugs into biology. In the coming time, the Plant Protection Department will also gradually eliminate 14 active ingredients in pesticides circulating in Vietnam with more than 1,006 drug names that are not in compliance with international regulations.

Mr. Le Van Thiet, Deputy Director of Plant Protection Department recommends using pesticides according to “4 right”

Currently, there are more than 100 pesticide factories in the country, with more than 30,000 agents dealing in agricultural chemicals for distribution of pesticides, of which the Mekong Delta accounts for the highest percentage of agents in the country. On average, Vietnam annually imports 100,000 tons of pesticides, equivalent to about US $ 1 billion, for business, domestic production and export of pesticides to countries in Asia.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development always recommends the use of plant protection drugs according to “4 right”, in which the use of biological drugs for plants is very important. However, many farmers still use pesticides that do not follow the correct four. In order to make safe agricultural products, immediate thinking must be changed.

Exchange used pesticides bottles for cooking oil

Currently, on the Sa Nhien flower route, Sa Dec city (Dong Thap) is arranged trash cans to store used pesticide bottles, avoiding indiscriminate disregarding the beauty of the flower route and the impact. to the environment. These bottles are gathered to the factory for destruction according to regulations.

Previously, the Provincial Agricultural Service Center organized training on how to rinse, package used bottles, jars, pesticides packaging to raise the awareness of flower growers in protecting the environment.

In addition, Dong Thap Department of Plantation and Plant Protection organizes a model of package management of used pesticides on ornamental flowers with 100 participating households. Households who participated in the last model brought in used pesticide bottles in exchange for gifts like cooking oil, sugar, and milk.
