The average coffee export price in the first 7 months of the year reached 2,420 USD/ton, up 7% over the same period last year.

In the first 7 months of the year, Germany was the largest market importing Vietnamese coffee. Specifically, in the first 7 months of the year, coffee exports to this market earned more than 300.5 million USD with 137,446 tons, down 8% in volume and down 5.41% in value compared to the same period in 2022.

In the first 7 months of the year, coffee prices are recording a sudden increase in some export markets, including Thailand. Specifically, in the first 7 months of 2023, coffee exports to this market reached 16,616 tons with a turnover of 58.08 million USD, an increase of 11% in volume but a sharp increase of 52.28% in value over the same period last year. 2022. However, Thailand’s proportion accounts for more than 1% in both volume and turnover in the export structure of Vietnamese coffee.

Notably, the average price of coffee exported to the Thai market in the first 7 months of the year reached 3,495 USD/ton, a sharp increase of 952 USD/ton (equivalent to 37.4%) compared to the same period last year and high. 44.4% more than the average coffee export price of the country.

In 2022, Vietnam’s coffee exports to Thailand earned more than 76.55 million USD with 30,688 tons.

Regarding the Vietnamese coffee market, our country’s coffee exports reach about 1.78 million tons, earning 4.06 billion USD in 2022, an increase of 13.8% in volume and 32% in value compared to last year. 2021. This is also the first year in history that coffee exports exceeded the 4 billion USD mark. According to data from the International Coffee Organization, Vietnam is the second country in the world in terms of coffee export market share (February 2021-January 2022 period), ranked only behind Brazil.

According to data from the Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam’s total coffee area by the end of 2022 reached 710.66 thousand hectares. Vietnamese coffee is grown in 19 provinces across the country but is mainly concentrated in 5 Central Highlands provinces, accounting for 91.2% of the total area of ​​the country.

Compared to other coffee producing countries in the world, Vietnam’s coffee area only ranks 6th after countries: Brazil with a total area of ​​nearly 1.9 million hectares, Indonesia with a total area of ​​over 1.2 million hectares, and Colombia with a total area of ​​nearly 1.9 million hectares. and Ethiopia more than 800 thousand hectares, Ivory Coast nearly 800 thousand hectares.

According to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), coffee prices have increased continuously in recent times due to insufficient supply and demand, of which weather is one of the main causes. It is forecast that from now until the end of the year, coffee exports will still be favorable as demand increases while supply does not improve.
