According to the Import and Export Department, the remarkable thing on the Vietnamese pepper market in the first 2 months of 2021 is that the export of black pepper and white pepper decreased compared to the same period in 2020, but the export of black pepper ground and ground white pepper increased sharply.

Thus, the structure of Vietnam’s pepper export categories has changed dramatically in the first quarter of 2021. Businesses reduced the export of raw pepper, replacing them with highly processed pepper types. This helps to increase the added value of Vietnamese pepper.

However, the weakness of Vietnamese pepper is that even though enterprises with high-tech processing factories according to ASTA, ESA, JSSA standards … create diversified products, in general, Vietnamese pepper is mainly export value of raw materials, lower than the selling price of India and Malaysia.

Therefore, VPA encourages to improve product quality from planting, businesses invest in deep processing, clean processing, product diversification, and market diversification to penetrate deeply into the pepper supply chain. global.

Mr. Pham Thanh Chung, Director of Loc Quang Organic Pepper Cooperative in Loc Ninh District, Binh Phuoc Province, shared that pepper prices have been low for a long time, many growers are no longer eligible to follow. chasing pepper cultivation.

Meanwhile, Vietnam has a well-developed pepper industry, but the spice-processing industry is not strong. To overcome this, many businesses are now investing in diversifying processed products for domestic and export, in which Loc Quang organic pepper cooperative is an example.

Currently, Loc Quang Cooperative is planning more than 20 hectares of organic pepper to standardize the process and traceability from seedlings, care to the final product.

In particular, this cooperative promotes the processing of value-added products from pepper such as organic salt and pepper, organic pepper soaked in vinegar, pepper powder … and aims to improve the quality of these products in time. to export to Japan.

According to Ms. Dao Thi Lanh, Chairman of the Farmers Association of Binh Phuoc province, the development trend of Binh Phuoc pepper industry is to promote organic farming. Along with that, the businesses in the area intensify the deep processing also contribute to the development of the brand name Loc Ninh pepper which has been known for many years.

Generally in the first quarter of 2021, the average export price of pepper reached 2,879 USD / ton, an increase of 31.5% over the same period in 2020.
