This morning, May 18, the black pepper price in Chau Duc district, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, the most competitive market in the major pepper growing provinces of our country, remained stable at VND 59,000 / kg. the day before, while the price of black pepper in the remaining provinces fluctuated between 57,000 and 58,000 VND / kg.

According to traders who trade in significant pepper in the southern provinces, black pepper prices in the domestic market in the first days of the week inched up to 1,000 VND / kg but then returned to stand at the level of 10 days ago and continue to suffer “Wait” by imported pepper prices.

However, the pressure on imported pepper prices usually does not last too long, only about 2 weeks as the volume of goods delivered to ships from both Vietnamese pepper exporters and FDI exporters remains at a high level. . While in recent years the volume of pepper imported from other producing countries, including member countries and non-members of the IPC, has fluctuated in the range of 20,000-30,000 tons per year.

According to world pepper market observers, this volume of imported pepper is equivalent to the volume of unofficial exports to China, including the number that is not counted by the customs industry of our country and the number is for the demand. domestic consumption. Therefore, the estimated total output of our farmers harvested in the past crop fluctuating around 200,000 tons of peppercorn is not a figure that puts too much pressure on exporters.

Preliminary data of the Customs industry shows that in the first four months of 2018, our country exported a total of 86,849 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, with a turnover value of 307.14 million USD. Obviously now is not the pressure on quantity, while the price is still ahead.

According to market data of the World Pepper Community (IPC), last week pepper prices in some markets such as Kochi – India, Sarawak – Malaysia decreased slightly while pepper prices in Vietnam decreased significantly, to about 7. %. In contrast, in Indonesia and Sri Lanka prices were relatively stable. However, in dollar terms, prices in Indonesia decreased while in Sri Lanka a slight increase.

According to traders in Karnataka, the price of pepper offered to buy at the farm gate is currently fluctuating in the range of 34,500 – 35,000 rupees / quintal (equivalent to 5,086 – 5,160 USD / ton), while the price of pepper has been preliminarily processed at the factory. processing in Kerala costs 37,500 rupees / quintal (equivalent to 5,529 USD / ton). However, there are some opinions that pepper prices at this level are mixed with imported pepper, while Indian pepper farmers do not want to sell at this level.

The price of Brazilian black pepper for export at Victoria port dropped to 3,000 – 3,050 USD / ton for grade B – Asta and 2,950 USD / ton for grade B1 (FOB). The price of Vietnamese black pepper grade 500 Gr / l was offered at USD 2,700 / ton and the grade 550 Gr / l was offered at USD 3,000 / ton (FOB-HCM), down 200-250 USD / ton from the previous week.

It is expected that domestic pepper prices will remain at a low level until the demand for white pepper increases again and especially the pressure of imported pepper to decrease in the next 2 weeks.
