On May 24, prices of black pepper in raw material areas in the Southeast and Central Highlands provinces increased simultaneously thanks to the new purchasing power of export traders. Specifically, the price of black pepper in Chau Duc, Xuyen Moc in Ba Ria – Vung Tau increased by 2,000 VND to 61,000 VND / kg, the rest of the provinces fluctuated in the frame of 58,000 – 60,000 VND / kg.

According to a local trader in Dong Nai market, the purchasing power that appeared this time was just buying additional inventories of the exporter after the deliveries to the ship for traditional importers. signed contract. Meanwhile, the market has not recorded any new sudden buying power. In particular, the buying demand of white pepper processing factories has not yet reappeared due to the lack of orders from exporters.

It is expected that the number of traditional customers from Hainan – China who normally order white pepper with a fairly significant volume is likely to come back around the end of this month or early next month and then the price of black pepper will flourish. especially the high-quality, high-volume goods.

Mr. Chau Hue, a trader who often supplies raw materials to the white pepper processing factories in Xuan Loc – Dong Nai, said to have high-density goods supplied fully according to the needs of the processing factories. For white pepper, traders have to find quality goods in the garden first and buy at prices higher than the market prices from time to time. Especially, when customers order with high volume, to attract selling force according to demand, the price of high-weight black pepper is usually purchased with a bonus price of 2,000-3,000 VND / kg after the cost.

Trade in India says the government has just allowed duty-free import of 2,500 tons of black pepper under FTA (Free Trade Agreement) with a minimum price of Rs 500 / kg (about 7.45 – 7.50 USD / kg). from Indonesia and Sri Lanka for processing, adding value added and re-exporting. However, traders trading in the Indian spice export, believe that the allowable limit is too low, will not contribute to improving the price of black pepper in the Indian domestic market, but also encourage the creation of a black market and smuggling. and most of all, will limit their business. This will lead to the possibility that many Indian spice exporters will establish bases for value-added additions in Vietnam and Indonesia, where the supply is always abundant.

According to the trade report last week of the World Pepper Association (IPC), the prices of black pepper in India and Sri Lanka decreased, while the black pepper of Vietnam and Indonesia remained stable while the export price was still low. the goods delivered to the export port show signs of slowing down. B-Asta Brazilian pepper prices were offered at 3,000 USD / ton, down 150-200 USD / ton from a week earlier. Black pepper price of Vietnam grade 500 Gr / l was offered at 2,700 USD / ton and for grade 550 Gr / l was offered at 3,000 USD / ton (FOB-HCM), the price remained unchanged.

According to the report of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, exports in the first half of May 2018 reached 10,811 tons of pepper of all kinds, with a turnover of $ 35.16 million, up 11.57% in volume but down 34, 94% in value over the same period last year. Average export price in the period reached 3,252 USD / ton, an increase of 2.04% compared to the average export price in April 2018.
