According to preliminary data reported by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, pepper exports in August 2020 reached 17,345 tons of all kinds of pepper, down 681 tons, or 3.78% down from the previous month and down 1,527 tons. , which is 8.09% lower than the same period last year.

The value of pepper export turnover in the month reached US $ 43.36 million, down US $ 15.13 million, or down 3.37% from the previous month and down US $ 3.03 million, or down 6.46% compared to the previous month. in the same period last year.

The accumulated export volume of pepper in the first eight months of 2020 totaled 201,916 tons of pepper of all kinds, down 16,424 tons, or 7.52% lower than the export volume of the first 8 months of 2019.

At the same time, in terms of export turnover value in the first 8 months of 2020, a total of 443.71 million USD, a decrease of 112.57 million USD, or a decrease of 20.24% over the same period.

The average export price in August 2020 reached US $ 2,500 / ton, up 0.40% compared with the average export price of July 2020.

According to IPC statistics, world pepper prices in August 2020 increased steadily in producing countries. Except for Indonesia’s ASTA black pepper price, which fell 9.42% due to the weakening of the Rupiah and local traders pushed up their inventory sales ahead of the new season.

Currently, Brazil and Indonesia are proceeding to harvest the new crop, which is expected to end by the end of November. However, both producers are facing many limitations due to unfavorable weather, which can cause quality. The drop in pepper and especially the second outbreak of the covid-19 epidemic caused them to continue to implement partial social gap, while exports slowed down and shipping costs increased.
