The 3rd Prime Minister’s Meeting with farmers will be held in the Central Region – Central Highlands. How do you assess the development potential of the Central Highlands agriculture in the overall picture of the economy?
– Agriculture and rural areas The Central Highlands has many potentials and important roles in our economy, security and national defense.
The Central Highlands has up to 2 million hectares of fertile basalt soil, equivalent to 60% of the national basalt soil, suitable for industrial crops such as coffee, cocoa, pepper, mulberry, tea, macadamia. These are all important industrial plants of Vietnam that have exported and kept a large market share of turnover in the world.

“I highly appreciate the initiative to organize dialogues, the dialogue will open up very positive changes, farmers from the direction of the ministries that renew production thinking, the ministries from conference of farmers that continues to improve policies, creating motivation for development ”.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development – Nguyen Xuan Cuong
However, this difficulty, the biggest challenge currently for agriculture and rural Central Highlands is the impact of climate change, such as: Drought and extreme weather events such as floods, tornadoes … not only cause immediate damage but also break the law of crop development; forest cover declines, groundwater plummets …
Therefore, for the Central Highlands to develop sustainably and commensurate with its potential, it is important to need mechanisms and policies to encourage infrastructure investment to form a key economic inter-region; focus on strongly developing key industries; especially agricultural and forestry processing industry; at the same time, to accelerate the restructuring of agriculture, to form large-scale concentrated material areas, serving the processing industry; Sustainable development, forest rehabilitation and protection, in association with people’s livelihood.
The Minister had participated in a dialogue with farmers and the Prime Minister at the First Conference in Hai Duong, the Minister’s responses were very close to the problem, and farmers were very satisfied. What is the Minister’s opinion on organizing such a straightforward and open dialogue conference?
– First of all, it must be affirmed that the Prime Minister’s Conference with farmers is a very rewarding and positive event.
Through the conference, the thoughts, feelings and recommendations of farmers were sent directly to the highest leader of the Government, the Prime Minister, representatives of the functional branches, who also grasped the aspirations of farmers, bottlenecks need to be removed in the production process so that the Prime Minister will focus on directing the relevant ministries, the political system to focus on disassembly solutions, not only for farmers but also for the whole community. enterprises and economic sectors from which to promote agricultural development.
After 2 times of organizing the dialogue, I found the format of the conference to convey very impressive, face to face with each current issue of agriculture and rural areas, the scale of the conference is getting bigger and more complete. .
The selection of organizations in each ecological region also contributes to removing urgent requirements for each region and each target group.
The problems that farmers still face in production and daily life are fully conveyed to the conference through representatives of farmers, cooperatives and farmers’ associations from the grassroots level. facility to the Central.
Based on these recommendations, the Government, especially the Prime Minister, has the direction for each sector, on the one hand, to continue perfecting the mechanisms and policies so as to create appropriate forces for farmers to develop production. attract businesses to invest in the Central – Highlands region which is very rich in potential; On the other hand, mobilizing the total strength of the whole enterprise sector, people, economic sectors to exploit this potential and advantages well.
Secondly, good models and good recommendations in the conference will be spread through all levels, ministries and Farmers’ Union, which will turn into good production results.
Thirdly, after a dialogue, it will create very positive pressure for ministries and agencies, including MARD, to address the Prime Minister’s requests and conclusions after the dialogue conference.
Units and ministries which do not do well must do better, but there is no reason for the contradictions and bottlenecks that have been raised, requested by the Prime Minister to be solved, but the ministries and branches cannot solve them.
After 2 times of Prime Minister’s dialogue with farmers, how did MARD solve the issues that farmers raised, Minister?
– For MARD alone, the issue of consumption of agricultural products and outputs for products is always a concern. Therefore, in recent years, the Ministry has continuously organized promotion and seeking new markets for agricultural products, for example, even in the 2020 lychee season, our specialty has reached Japan and Singapore. , … Despite the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the export value of agricultural products in the first 6 months of the year still reached a positive figure.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also instructs the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development to organize the market information and forecasting so that the people and enterprises can have a production orientation.
With regard to land-related issues, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has coordinated with functional agencies to solve the problems still in the law, hoping that in the future, those limitations will be removed and created momentum. for agricultural development.
After 3 times of organizing, the Prime Minister’s Dialogue with farmers became the event that farmers expected. What does the Minister expect from the meaningful dialogue between the Government and farmers?
– As I said, I appreciate the initiative to organize dialogues, the dialogue will open up very positive changes, farmers from the direction of the ministries that renew production thinking, Ministries and departments from the recommendations of farmers that continue to improve the policy, creating motivation for development.
I look forward to this conference continuing to be maintained, organized in the form of more and more innovative and improved.
Thank you Minister!
