Trading conference with Chongqing market

On June 18, the Department of Trade Promotion (Ministry of Industry and Trade) in collaboration with Chongqing Trade Commission, Chongqing Trade Promotion Committee (CCP CCP Chongqing) opened an online trade conference for agricultural and aquatic products. Participating in the “Vietnam-China Agricultural, Food and Seafood Trade Online Conference 2020”, Vietnamese enterprises will have chance to meet online with Chongqing importers.

Chongqing has a great demand for agricultural products

Trade Promotion Bureau, leading experts’ assessment, said that Chongqing is located in southwestern China, considered an important corridor connecting Southeast Asia with Central Asia and South Asia.

With a population of over 31 million people (2019), the total GDP income as of the end of the first quarter of 2020 will reach 498,766 billion yuan (equivalent to nearly 72.3 billion USD), this is considered a potential market for Vietnam’s exports, especially in the above areas.

Currently Chongqing has a great demand for agricultural products and foodstuffs, as this is the “Capital of Hot Pot”. The city mainly imports seafood with a total output of over 600,000 tons, most of which are freshwater fish and frozen seafood (due to the absence of seaports and long transportation times).

In addition, this is also an import city fruit tropical fruits such as dragon fruit, watermelon, longan, grapefruit, etc. are very large, due to the hot summer season, which makes consumers in high demand.

Other products like coffee, fruit Vietnam’s dried products are now available at reputable import supermarkets of Chongqing such as G7 coffee, fruit drying…

According to the statistics of Chinese customs office, in the first 4 months of this year, import and export turnover between Vietnamese enterprises and Chongqing enterprises reached 14.05 billion yuan (equivalent to more than 2 billion USD), increasing by 106.2% over the same period last year.

In particular, Vietnam’s export turnover to Chongqing reached 12.4 billion yuan (equivalent to 1.8 billion USD), increasing by 135.5% and Vietnam’s import turnover from Chongqing reaching 1.63 billion yuan (approximately US $ 240 million), up 5.7% over the same period in 2019.

Vietnam’s exports to the Chongqing market are mainly via international intermodal rail.
