Updating of online pepper prices from the new agricultural product markets shows that pepper prices are receiving positive signs, last week recorded two price increases, this helped pepper prices in some localities to increase by VND 1,500 / kg compared to last week.

Prices of pepper were recorded today in the Central Highlands and the southern region at the highest price of VND 39,500 / kg recorded in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, the lowest of 37,000 VND / kg in Gia Lai, Dong Nai.

Specifically, prices of pepper in Dak Nong (Gia Nghia) and Dak Lak (Ea H’leo) stood at VND 38,000 / kg.

Pepper prices in Ba Ria – Vung Tau provinces are the places with the highest pepper prices in the region when trading at 39,500 VND / kg.

Pepper price in Binh Phuoc was VND 38,500 / kg.

Pepper price in Gia Lai was bought / sold at VND 37,500 / kg.

Particularly, prices of pepper in Dong Nai remained flat at VND 37,000 / kg.

According to the Import and Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in the early days of April, the price of black pepper in the domestic market was still low. Specifically, on April 8, pepper price in Chu Se district, Gia Lai province increased by 2.9% compared to March 31, reaching VND 35,500 / kg; prices in Dong Nai province increased by 1.4%, while prices in the remaining areas were stable.

The price of white pepper at VND 57,000 / kg, an increase of 1.7% compared to the end of March, but still much lower than the price of VND 71,000 / kg in the same period of 2019. It is currently the pepper harvest season in the region. Central Highlands and the South, the selling price is still low compared to recent years.

The average import price of US pepper in the first 2 months of 2020 reached US $ 3,012 / ton, down 9.7% compared to the same period in 2019. In particular, the average import price of US pepper from markets reduction as: Vietnam decreased by 12.9%, to USD 2,916 / ton; Indonesia decreased by 11.8% to USD 3,248 / ton; India decreased by 15.1% to 3,888 USD / ton.

Indian black pepper imports fell more than 33% in February to 1,281.8 tons as domestic pepper prices were lower than global prices, causing the country's imports to slow, according to Cogencis.

In Kerala, pepper trading was stagnant due to a blockade to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic nationwide. Pepper prices were trading at 300 rupees / kg or less. Pepper imported from Sri Lanka costs about 310 rupees / kg.

This year, Indian pepper output is likely to increase from 45,000 tons last year to 65,000 tons.
