Specifically, the highest pepper price was recorded in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province at VND 40,500 / kg, down VND 1,000 / kg compared to yesterday. The biggest drop in the “capital” of pepper in the Central Highlands is Gia Lai, down 2,000 dong, to 37,000 dong / kg. Dong Nai drops 1,000 dong to 37,000 dong / kg. Other localities such as Dak Nong and Dak Lak, the price of pepper decreased by VND 1,000 to VND 39,000 / kg.
The sharp fall in pepper prices was explained by the fact that importers are waiting for Vietnam's harvest to buy at low prices. In addition, according to some members of the Vietnam Pepper Association, 15-20% of Vietnam's pepper is exported to China by road. Corona pneumonia epidemic caused the trade of the two countries to slow down, many agricultural products of Vietnam, exported to China, including pepper, without customs clearance, made the domestic purchasing price decrease sharply.
According to the Import-Export Department – Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first month of 2020, prices of black and white pepper in the world market fluctuated heterogeneously. Pepper prices in Indonesia increased by 3.8% compared to the end of 2019. In the country, export prices of pepper decreased continuously, the lowest was 39,000 VND / kg and the highest was 41,500 VND / kg. Specifically, on January 18, the export price of black pepper decreased by 1.7% compared to December 31, 2019 and by 0.6% compared to December 18, 2019, to US $ 2,305 / ton and US $ 2,370 / ton respectively. Export price of white pepper decreased by 1.1% compared to December 31, 2019 and by 0.4% compared to December 18, 1919, to US $ 3,455 / ton.
According to the Export Department, in 2020, global pepper production is forecasted to be quite abundant, demand does not increase sharply, prices are hard to recover. This is a good time for Vietnam to adjust the pepper growing area, from 150,000 hectares to 100,000 hectares.
Meanwhile, domestic coffee price today (3.2) increased slightly to 100-200 VND / kg, from 30,900 VND – 31,500 VND / kg in the material area. World coffee goes across, delivered at the port of Ho Chi Minh City stopped at 32,800 VND / kg as the previous day.
