Pepper exports to most markets have increased in volume but decreased in value, due to the influence of the downward trend of pepper prices in the world.

The highlight of Vietnam's pepper exports in 2019 is the significant growth in exports to the German market in both volume and value in the context of declining global pepper prices.

Update coffee prices

Today's coffee price in the Central Highlands increased by VND 100 / kg. For the whole region, the price of coffee fluctuated in the range of 31,400 – 32,000 VND / kg. In particular, the price of coffee in Lam Dong province is the lowest and highest in Dak Lak, according to giacaphe.com.

Coffee prices at warehouses around the port of Ho Chi Minh City increased 16 USD / ton to 1,440 USD / ton.

The price of robusta coffee delivered in March 2020 decreased by 2% to 1,287 USD / ton. Price of arabica coffee delivered in March 2020 increased 1% to 118.6 UScent / pound.

According to a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) report, the total production for Central America and Mexico is forecast to decline slightly by 400,000 bags to 19.1 million as some countries have to combat rust on coffee leaves, The first record decline from 2013 to 2014.

Increased production in Mexico due to favorable weather is expected to offset losses in Honduras, where farmers restrict implementation of preventive measures against leaf rust due to low prices and the ability to limit lending.

Production of El Salvador and Panama is at 650,000 and 75,000, respectively, as these countries continue to struggle with rust. Guatemala production is expected to decrease 200,000 bags to 3.6 million bags with reduced production.

Coffee exports across the region are expected to fall by 800,000 bags to 15.5 million bags, mainly due to lower export supplies in Honduras. Nearly half of the region's exports are destined for the European Union (EU) market, followed by about a third to the US.

Coffee imports of the European Union (EU) are forecast to decrease 1.1 million bags to 48.0 million and account for more than 40% of the world's coffee bean coffee imports.

The leading suppliers are Brazil (29%), Vietnam (25%), Honduras (8%) and Colombia (6%). Year-end reserves are expected to decrease by 400,000 bags to 14.0 million bags.

The United States is the second largest importer of coffee in the world and is forecast to reduce 1.0 million bags to 26.2 million bags.

The leading suppliers are Brazil (24%), Colombia (22%), Vietnam (15%) and Guatemala (6%). Year-end inventories fell 500,000 bags to 6.9 million bags, but consumption was little changed after last year's increase.
