According to the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development, in 2019, the average export price of pepper was estimated at 2,516 USD / ton, down 23.6% compared to 2018.

In particular, the export volume of pepper in December is estimated at 17 thousand tons, with a value of 41 million USD, bringing the export volume of pepper in 2019 is estimated at 284 thousand tons and 715 million USD, up 23.4% to but decreased by 5.7% in value compared to the previous year.

The US continues to be the largest market of Vietnamese pepper, with a market share of 19.5%. Followed by India (6.9%), Germany (4.5%), Netherlands (3.7%), United Arab Emirates (3.5%), Pakistan (3.5%) %) …

Pepper exports to most markets increased in volume but decreased in value, due to the influence of the downward trend of pepper prices in the world.

However, the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that prices of black pepper and white pepper exported in some producing countries have recovered thanks to seasonal factors and increased demand in the winter.

“It is forecasted that in 2020, global pepper prices will hardly recover due to the oversupply,” the Import-Export Department said.

The highlight of Vietnam's pepper exports in 2019 is the significant growth in exports to the German market in both volume and value in the context of declining global pepper prices.

As of November, pepper export to Germany has reached 10.5 thousand tons, equivalent to 30.3 million USD, up 40.8% in volume and 9% in value.

Germany's share of Vietnam's total pepper exports has also increased from 3.9% (2018) to 4.5% (2019).

Germany increased imports of pepper mainly to provide raw materials for the processing industry, serving the need for re-export to other countries in Europe and the US.

Besides the German market, Vietnam's pepper exports to markets including Thailand, Russia and Turkey also saw high growth.

In particular, pepper exports to Turkey have increased to 89.4% in volume and 46% in value.

Export to Russia increased by 40.6% in volume and by 10.3% in value; exports to Thailand increased 34.8% in volume and 0.6% in value.
