Regarding the crisis of oversupply of pepper in recent years, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said Vietnam's pepper production accounts for 60% of total pepper production worldwide.

To develop the advantages of pepper, Vietnam only produces to a certain extent. The planning is only 50,000 ha, while the actual area is 3 times the planned area of 150,000 ha. Therefore, inefficient areas need to be transferred to other trees.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has also called for businesses to link with farmers to deep processing pepper products with 10 different items, including pepper oil.

In addition, with EVFTA, EU countries commit to eliminate tariffs on pepper products (HS code 0904) right after the agreement comes into effect. This will be a good lever for Vietnamese businesses to increase exports to EU countries, especially for previously processed products with a tax rate of 5 – 9%.
