It is known that the pepper cultivated here originated from the hometown of Vinh Linh Quang Tri, brought by workers of Vinacafe companies in the area. As proved suitable for the climate and soil, Vinh Linh pepper trees in the Central Highlands develop very strongly, are selected by the gardeners as the main seedlings because of their high yield and prunes. In particular, the recovery rate of black pepper type 1 and very high grade, often used to process white pepper, so traders are very popular.

In particular, pepper is intercropped on the area of ​​coffee by clinging to the trunk of the black tree shade coffee, healthy living and less pests. Therefore, it is not uncommon to go to Cu Kuin pepper area to find pillars with productivity of up to 10 kg. Meanwhile, other specialized pepper gardens are always threatened by pests and diseases, especially deadly disease caused by nematodes.

Currently, Dak Lak province has over 4,800ha of pepper, including 4,000ha of pepper for harvest with an output of nearly 13,000 tons of commercial pepper of all kinds. Pepper growing areas are most concentrated in Ea H’Leo, Cu M’Gar, Krong Buk, Cu Kuin districts …

The high price of pepper also motivated many households to propagate so the rainy season will increase the area and switch crops.

Today, export black pepper is being offered at USD 5,900 / ton for 500gr / l and 6,200 USD / ton for 550gr / l (FOB). Meanwhile, Indian pepper prices were up to 6,400 USD / ton (C&F) for the US market and 6,300 USD / ton (C&F) for the European market. Reportedly, the supply from Vietnam and Indonesia is being tightened because this crop is not in season.
