Joining IPC in 2005, Vietnam Pepper Association – VPA is the only industry association of Vietnam to join the world's commodity association and become the most important member, the member with the highest dues contribution ( 100,000 USD / year), for this organization.

IPC has 6 members, including Brazil, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam with a total output of 331,500 T, accounting for 87% of the world's pepper output (in 2013), so the voice of IPC is extremely high. important in production and business activities of this industry on a worldwide scale.

The information of IPC is conveyed by VPA on its website and becomes an extremely effective consulting tool not only for businesses, farms but also for thousands of other pepper growing households.

On the other hand, due to the accumulation of many years, most of the pepper growing households are not forced by daily cash rice, pepper can be packed in normal storage for 2-3 years without fear of damage. is the basis for pepper growers, stockpiles to choose the time of sale that best suits them.

What are the advantages of Vietnamese pepper?

In 2014, the total area of ​​Vietnam's pepper business was about 63,000 ha with an output of 135,000 T (minus 20,000 T imported) sold 1,080 million USD (excluding 6,000 T domestic consumption) on average per hectare earned more than 17,000 USD (equivalent to 350 million VND).

2014 became a historic year in all 3 aspects: area, output, value, and was also the highest year of the pepper selling price at households – an average of 170,000 VND / kg. With the above price, few trees can match and become the motivation to explode new planted areas.

According to many experts' estimates, the new planted area in 2013 and 2014 is very large, estimated at 10,000 ha / year and there is no sign of stopping, so the pepper area in the coming years will be 100,000 ha. , 2 times the planning area of ​​MARD.

In parallel with the boom in area, intensive farming will also explode in terms of disease. A survey by the Southern Institute of Science and Technology showed that pepper was suffering from 8 serious diseases: fast death, slow death, curly leaves, root rot, black leaf spot, white leaf spot, algae spot, cotton aphid, including 2 dangerous diseases. The most eradicated pepper areas in Vietnam are fast death due to Phytophthora and Fusarium slow death.

Many fungal pathogens make pesticide consumption on pepper increase, the risk of unsanitary food safety, which is the main reason why Vietnamese pepper is not reliable enough to penetrate into fastidious markets such as America, Europe, Japan. The price of 200,000 VND / kg is considered a record within 15 years of Vietnamese pepper but still very cheap compared to India, Malaysia and Indonesia from 1,500 – 2,500 USD / T.

There have been many delegations of IPC visiting Vietnamese pepper, including many leading scientists on pepper. When they came to pepper gardens with productivity of 4-5 t / ha, they all praised our peasants, but when they arrived at the hotel, only a few loved ones, they said differently, 30 years, 50 years before the lake. their peppers have achieved the same yield but were broken down by disease. Also according to them, to be sustainable, the productivity should only be maintained at around 2 T / ha.

The price increase over many years of pepper due to the development of the fast food processing industry using more spices; The sudden increase in price from USD 7,053 to USD 11,000 / T at the end of 2014 was mainly due to a reduction of 43,000 tons from India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. These countries, especially Brazil, are trying to increase pepper production, forecasting that the demand of oversupply in 2015 and beyond will not be significant.
