Follow Business Line, spot pepper prices remained stable due to matching supply and demand, despite increased sales pressure from the new crop.
On Friday, exporters and domestic companies actively increased their purchasing power, so 100 tons of pepper were traded. Of these, 60 tons come from Kerala and 40 tons come from Karnataka.
Traders said pepper was becoming available and cheaper from the state of Karnataka, because traders bought it themselves by rail and without receipts did not appear. And so the number of goods shipped to the futures market increased.
Karnataka pepper is sold for Rs 580 a kg while pepper in the High Mountains in Kerala state is traded at Rs 600 a kg and pepper from other regions is traded at Rs 590 – Rs 595 per kg.
Spot prices remained unchanged at Rs 58,500 a quintal (US $ 9,396 / tonne) for pail and 61,500 Rs / quintal (US $ 9,878 / ton) for the pre-processed grade.
On the IPSTA Spices Association Floor, all contracts fell by Rs 1,000. Specifically, the contracts for March, April and May were respectively Rs 58,500 / quintal, Rs 54,382 / quintal and Rs 54,179 / quintal (equivalent to USD 9,396 / ton, USD 8,734 / ton and 8,702 USD / ton).
Export prices are currently at USD 10,000 / tonne (c & f) for spot shipment and USD 9,300 / tonne for March delivery in Europe.
The price of Vietnamese black pepper increased to 8,700 USD / ton.
