The project “Development of sustainable pepper supply chain” is carried out by SNV Netherlands Development Organization, Nedspice Spices Processing Company in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The project marked a development step in production, thereby forming a group production link and being underwritten by the company.

The objective of the project is to support the development of a sustainable pepper production model by establishing farmer groups to participate in the project and in association with certified consumption channels. The project of “Sustainable pepper supply chain development” has been assigned by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to the Binh Phuoc Agricultural and Fishery Extension and Extension Center. Up to now, the project has completed phase 1 (2013 – 2015).

The implementation of the project “Sustainable pepper supply chain development” has brought a number of high results for farmers in production and consumption. Currently, the project has established 24 sustainable pepper production clubs in 3 districts of Bu Dop, Loc Ninh and Hon Quan of Binh Phuoc province.

The project has provided technical training and principles of sustainable pepper cultivation in the Rain (Rainforest Alliance) to more than 700 farmers, certifying 540 farmers to practice and adhere to the RA principles. The project connects certified product consumption channels to participating clubs with Nedspice Spices Processing Vietnam Co., Ltd., and contributes to enhance the status and brand of Binh Phuoc pepper. highly appreciated by international customers.

Ms. Le Thi Anh Tuyet, Director of Binh Phuoc Center for Agricultural Extension and Industry said that until now, the Provincial Center for Agricultural and Fishery Extension has set up a project management board of 24 members. The task of the Project Management Unit is to receive and implement the project and manage the project activities as planned so that it can be a bridge to farmers, helping farmers in their knowledge and skills.
