Main varieties of pepper are Kamcham and Kampot indigenous; like Vinh Linh, Loc Ninh of Vietnam; some areas for planting Sri Lankan varieties of India.
The land in Cambodia is quite good, suitable for pepper and long-term industrial crops. Because pepper in Cambodia is developed after Vietnam, farmers here learn and gain a lot of experience in the process of selecting, tending, harvesting, preserving products; pests and diseases not much; The abuse of pesticides and chemical fertilizers is limited.
Especially, since 2015, some pepper cooperatives in Cambodia have been supported by non-governmental organizations in implementing the GAP process. At the same time, the area of organic pepper cultivation, Organic also initially built on a small scale, concentrated mainly in Kampot and Memot (Tbaung Khrmum province). Some foreign businesses like Switzerland have bought this type of pepper at a high price of about 14 USD / kg.
The VPA survey found that, due to the increase in the area of Cambodian pepper in 2015 and 2016, from March 2018 this new area will be harvested, the output in 2018 is estimated at 25,000 – 28,000 tons. Cambodia's pepper harvest time also coincides with Vietnam, around March of the calendar year. The VPA also acknowledges your proposal in the near future to strengthen the cooperation between VPA member businesses and Cambodian farmers in transferring cultivation and product consumption techniques between the two sides.
