Caring for pepper gardens in Dak Song and Dak Nong

Information from the localities said that this year, pests and diseases did not appear to be concerned about adding low pepper prices, so farmers in the regions did not spray more pesticides to prevent pests and some nutritious fertilizers to feed fruits. In December as in previous years, the quality of pepper so this year may be more positive, the problem of pesticide residues on export pepper may be improved.

In 2017, the weather was unfavorable for pepper production, so the productivity of many places decreased significantly, especially in old pepper gardens, the perennial pepper land degraded, hardened as Loc Ninh, Bu Dop, Binh Phuoc … no For harvest, some districts grow perennial pepper of Dak Lak, Gia Lai … productivity decreased by 70-80%. However, in the pepper gardens of 4 – 5 years old, especially the new land, the impact level is not great, especially in the gardens that are cared for, well drained, balanced fertilizers, and agriculture. People often visit the garden. The good lands, newly planted from 2013 to 2014 such as Dak Song, Dak R’Lap … (Dak Nong) or Chu Prong, Mang Yang (Gia Lai) … productivity is still equivalent, even higher than the previous year.

In general, although the 2018 pepper yield in the whole country may decrease by 30%, Vietnam's pepper output may not decrease because the newly planted area in 2012 – 2013 this year began to be harvested. with an average national yield of about 20 quintals / ha, next year's production can completely offset the expected loss due to unfavorable weather this year. Production is estimated at 180,000 – 200,000 tons.

Market:

The domestic pepper trading market is in a poor condition, especially in the main pepper producing areas. Although the company has not yet entered the official harvest yet, the price is continuously falling, so the buying agents have not made any moves to prepare for the purchase as strongly as in the previous harvest. The main reason is that the bank is tightening loans because of high risk concerns due to low prices and due to many dealers still not daring to buy in fear of a sharp fall in prices will cause losses. In addition, it is also the reason that many agents are now turning to investment capital to buy coffee due to the expectation that daily trade in the future will be better than pepper. This situation is causing all pepper farmers to be very worried that the 2018 harvest will not be able to recover capital after a year of spending a lot of investment on pepper gardens.
