Vietnam’s frozen durian was opened by the Chinese market in August24. However, up to now, the expectation of the export turnover of this fruit is still on paper.
What to do to promote the export of frozen durian in 2025?

Still worrying about not meeting the standard
As a rule, frozen durian is exported including whole durian (with shell), pureed durian (without shell) and durian rice (without shell).
On the market, frozen durian exported type 1 with an average price of 170,000 – 180,000 VND/kg, the type lower than the average price of 140,000 – 150,000 VND/kg. Therefore, the value of each refrigerated durian container is 7-8 billion dong, 3-4 times more fresh durian.
However, Ms. Ngo Tuong Vy – Deputy Director of Chanh Thu Import Export Co., Ltd. (Ben Tre) – said that this year the enterprise has not exported durian frozen to China.
As one of the five pioneering enterprises to export durian officials to the Chinese market, the owner said that she had not signed a contract to export frozen durian to China.
“Currently, fresh durian is playing in the season, the price is very high while if the durian is frozen this year will fall into the peak, the profit is not equal,” Ms. Vy said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bui Phu Ton – Director of Xuan Xuan Import Export Trading Co., Ltd. (Gia Nghia City, Dak Nong Province) – said the unit had experience in exporting frozen durian and currently present in Thailand.
In 2024, this enterprise “exported jubilant” durian frozen a few dozen containers to Thailand with an average price of 150,000 VND/kg. Particularly for the Chinese market, Mr. Ton’s company has not been granted export certificates because it also assesses the compliance with the procedures.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Nam – traders in Hanoi, specializing in trading in agricultural products, even Vietnamese businesses with export licenses, available sources … are still unable to promote immediately.
Listing the entanglement, Mr. Nam said the first is about the criteria of container temperature to preserve frozen durian – the core temperature is negative 18 ° C or lower, and this temperature must be maintained during storage and transportation. But when delivering goods from Vietnam’s container to China’s container, the temperature is not guaranteed as prescribed, so the goods are not of quality.
“If the contract is not tight, Vietnam is responsible or the business is responsible. Coming to the customs gate a lot of costs have “teamed” to container goods, businesses are worried if returned will lose big losses, “Mr. Nam explained.
In addition, from the beginning of January 2025, China requires all durian shipments from exporting countries to this country to have additional certificates of gold and cadimi quality inspection (these two substances test centers must be recognized by China). This regulation applies 100% of the shipments, if the new response is cleared.
“Vietnam frozen durian must also comply with fresh durian, businesses are looking for solutions to control residues of cadimi and y gold to the border gate to make sure to sign a contract. So the product of frozen durian to your country is slower than the desired reality, ”Mr. Nam added.
Everything has been “informed”, businesses on both sides are “not open”!?
According to the leader of the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), on the management side, the authorities have done all the procedures registration with the Chinese side, only businesses on both sides have not yet reached an agreement, has not yet unified contracts with each other.
“If it is really entangled from the authorities on both sides, businesses can call the Department directly, we will solve it,” the leader of the Plant Protection Department emphasized.
The Department of Plant Protection also said that in the coming time, the Ministry will organize training and guide units participating in export, support businesses and farmers.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Chairman of Vietnam Vegetable Association, said that Vietnam’s frozen durian wants to “set foot” to China depends on the signing of contracts among enterprises of the two countries.
“Licensed businesses may have exceeded the regulations and standards related to food hygiene and hygiene of China’s plant. However, it may be because the two parties have not agreed on the contract.
In order to export, businesses need to ensure packaging facilities and planting areas; freezing capacity and cold storage; Standards related to Chinese food hygiene and hygiene and migration. Especially, frozen durian originated from durian growing areas registered, managed and supervised in Vietnam, ”Mr. Binh said.
Similarly, the Vietnam Vegetable Association also recommends that businesses need to quickly update the requirements and prepare documents and contracts carefully to avoid the risk of being returned.
