Durian joy increases in price

These days, gardeners in Ngu Hiep island commune, Cai Lay district are busy taking care of the durian garden that is starting to bear fruit. With 2.3 hectares of 30-year-old durian, even though it has just produced young fruit, the owner of this garden is very excited.

The price of durian in the Eastern and Central Highlands regions is lower than durian in the West, about 30,000 VND per kg, but currently, gardeners update information daily, the selling price is increasing to 90,000 VND/kg at the garden. In the upcoming harvest, farmers are sure to have a favorable harvest and prices will also be high.

According to most gardeners, the weather this year is not favorable. Despite careful care, the rate of durian fruits this season is not high. Output is likely to decrease by about 30% compared to normal levels. However, with current prices, gardeners still believe that the coming crop will still yield high harvest efficiency.

Last year, Vietnam’s durian exports reached their highest value in September and October, with nearly 500 million USD per month. This year, there are not many durians left in the Western region and the upcoming crop’s output will decline. Durian prices continue to increase, ordinary gardeners can still stabilize their income of more than billion VND per hectare. For households that take care of durian and achieve good yields, this will be a rare opportunity.
