Pepper market on October 23, 2024: Increased simultaneously in all provinces

Update from the International Pepper Association (IPC), in the most recent trading session, the price of Lampung Indonesian black pepper was listed at 6,753 USD/ton, down 42 USD/ton compared to the previous trading session.

Meanwhile, pepper prices in other countries remain stable. With Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 trading at 6,400 USD/ton, Kuching Malaysian black pepper is priced at 8,700 USD/ton.

Price of black pepper 500 g/l and 550 g/l export of Vietnam in the range of 6,500 – 6,800 USD/ton.

At the same time of the survey, the price of Muntok Indonesian white pepper decreased by 56 USD/ton, down to 9,246 USD/ton.

While Vietnam and Malaysia’s white pepper remained stable at 9,500 USD/ton and 11,200 USD/ton.

Update pepper information

The global pepper market experienced minor fluctuations last week, with demand increasing in major markets such as the US, EU and Asia, while the Middle East and China remained subdued. Inventory levels have decreased significantly, causing farmers and dealers to limit sales when pepper prices dropped slightly.

Brazil is facing a serious drought, leading to a decrease in pepper output of 25-40%. However, Brazil’s pepper export revenue still increased thanks to higher prices.

Meanwhile, Indonesia has seen pepper production increase by 14.4%, helping the country become more competitive in the global market.

India’s pepper exports also increased by 31.4%, while Malaysia’s pepper output is expected to reach 27,000 tons.

Cambodia’s pepper exports have increased by 51%, with Vietnam being the main buyer.

Import China’s pepper consumption from Vietnam has plummeted by 84.1%, but the country has increased its pepper purchases from Indonesia.

These developments highlight key trends and potential risks for pepper exporters, said Mr. Marcellus Giovanni, CEO of Brazspice Spices International.

In Vietnam’s domestic market, according to Ba Ria – Vung Tau NewspaperOn October 22, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province coordinated with Xuyen Moc District Farmers’ Association to organize a training class “Producing pepper plants in conditions of climate change associated with environmental protection” for nearly 80 officials and farmer members of Tan Lam, Hoa Hung, Hoa Hoi, Bau Lam, Hoa Binh and Hoa Hiep communes.

Xuyen Moc district currently has 4,277 hectares of pepper trees, of which 4,104.5 hectares of pepper area is being harvested, with an average yield of 2.2 tons/ha. Total harvest output is 10,428 tons of pepper/year. The district has also built concentrated production areas applying high technology of 1,900 hectares in Hoa Hiep, Hoa Hoi, Hoa Binh, Hoa Hung, Bau Lam and Tan Lam communes.
